I'm gonna be 'that' guy...

If I ever got a tattoo... wait... that would never happen. I seriously considered getting a tattoo when I was just a tad younger. I'm so grateful that I never followed through. Get a piercing or something. At least you can take it out later.

It will be difficult to get a completely timeless tattoo especially of gaming. Sure, everyone might know about the Triforce or 1-up, but attitudes about those things can change or be forgotten as much as you may think they will be forever relevant.

There's a chance you may never regret the tattoo, but if you do, it'll be a pain in the ass taking it back. If you're gonna do it at least do it out of sight so that you can very very easily cover it up.

That way I know it wouldn't be cliched, mass produced
Seriously? And then you go on to list the most visible gaming franchises of the last several generations. Getting anything from those games will be cliché and mass produced. I've seen dozens of pictures of firggin' Triforces tattooed onto people. You aren't an original and will not be for getting a gaming tattoo.

As gaming become more mainstream it will be no different than having something from Star Wars tattooed on you. Think about a store like Hot Topic. What once would've defined a generation is now a silly T-shirt. Ten year-old kids are wearing Hot Topic shirts with 80s crap plastered on them to be ironically retro or something. These things have lost their meaning and are purely silly.

Keep these things in mind before you go get a "clever" tattoo of some video game character.

And if you think you're being unique in your tattoo choice just try to Google anything you come up with and I'll be surprised if you don't find an inked representation somewhere.

Remember when tribal tattoos were cool and fresh? Now every douchebag has one on his bicep. They are actually a mark of you being and idiot at the time that was cool. There seems to be quite the surge of gamers getting nerdy tattoos... once again.. you're not being unique.

When you consider getting one consider having permanently bleached hair (circa 1996), a tribal around your arm, barbed wire around the other arm, and a yin-yang somewhere on your body. Those didn't stay cool and this won't either.
