Do you prefer the starter world game play, or the world after Kefka takes control?

I guess the question is linear vs non linear. I found the adventure of WoR was probably the most exciting part of the game, but I only enjoyed it so much because it was expanding on everything the WoB build upon.
I think the world map layout was better in WOB but i liked both worlds
Kefka's coming, look intimidating!
Have a nice day!!
WoR made for a really grand non-linear adventure of little insane episodes, but the WoB was probably the funner part of the game. Not to mention the continuous story kinda falls apart in WoR and your characters are unable to recognize who they're talking to half the time.
I always liked the first world better for some reason. Not just because it's nicer looking but there is alot of fun story telling and introducing the characters and their towns and the opera house and yaddi yaddi. World of Ruin has a ton of extra stuff too, but I'm partial to the WoB.
I really like grass, so...
I like the WoR, it really set the game apart from the rest of the series if not most of the genre and it introduced the one game design option I really felt JRPGs should have taken to which was making the second half of the title more open ended with the player choosing how the story is told from there. I also feel the whole "but it sucks cause the game doesn't care whose in your party" is not only exaggerated but overrated as well.
The WoB has great moments and scenes that will be remembered forever but the WoR brought you something else, an experience. Never had I felt as obligated to explore the world and see how much has been transformed and destroyed by the villains, nor can I shake the thought that it was me, the player's fault, for not stopping Kefka and having the world destroyed.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
The second half of the game could have used a little more cohesion, but on the whole, the WoR is one of my favorite parts of any game in the series. I love being presented with an entirely new world to explore, and actually being able to explore it, rather than having invisible walls all over, like some of the later games would do ("We COULD explore this awesome dungeon now and get Locke back, but I think we should turn back and find MOG first. Wasn't he the best?")
It was also an amazing twist, following one of the most shocking scenes in any of the Final Fantasy games. I legitimately wanted to explore how this impacted my characters, the world around me. It's the first time I think I'd ever been swept along with a story to the point where I could literally feel what the characters were feeling as they explored the empty husk of the world. It was such an amazing feeling that very few, if any, games have been able to recapture.
The storyline of the WOB is just awesome

I believe the WoB had a much stronger storyline, as in the WoR had all optional stuff. BUT, I feel the WoR is the type of openness I enjoy in an RPG. Everywhere there were hints and stuff telling you where to go and who was where and such, but at the same time NONE of it was required. It felt like the best sidequests in any game ever.

This is a tough call. It was a huge shock to me when the WoB just went and the World of Ruin just raged in there! I was used to the lush greens and general pleasantries of the world of Balance but imagine my shock when the world suddenly becomes this bleak, abyss of desolation! As for which I prefer I would have to weigh up the cons. In the WoR I was stunned yet eager to see how it affected the cast and if they were all safe (especially Edgar, I freaked at the prospect of whether he was okay hahaha) and what had happened in this whole year that had past. Aside from Celes, were they alive? Were they dead? Would Celes keep her will to live? etc etc However aptly, the WoR segment dragged a bit for me and made me as melancholic and bleak as the hopes of that world.
I would vote the WoR for the shock factor alone, but in conclusion I love both. Because the antithesis of both is a core part of Final Fantasy VI.![]()

I prefer the linearity of the World of Balance over the freedom of the World of Ruin. If the World of Ruin took a more linear approach to gameplay and story, I would have liked that more than the World of Balance, too.
I believe in the power of humanity.
I love how the game opens up in the World of Ruin, but I just like being in the World of Balance more.
I love the look of the map in the WoB. Probably the best of any FF game.
I LOVE the non-linear play in the WoR.
