It's a bat. Why the symbol for it is a common sad-face emoticon is a good question.
I freakin hate that, 'cause I always use :[ as more of a grumpy sad face. That the main reason I turned off smileys on MSN. I hate them. But they ruin my emotes. Though nobody else turns them off, so I still looked like I was making bat faces. So I had to stop using that face :[
This is sick. What do they think they're doing. I loved the MSN smile face because of how it's use at the end of any sentence can give it a creepy overtone. The new one is so obviously creepy and depraved that it's too smurfing obvious. And the others...they don't even deserve words. What are they playing at. This is sick.
All messenger clients have terrible default smileys, so I always turn them off. It's only really annoying in MSN because everyone has custom smileys and I can never see them.

Also keep in mind that like half of these are actually animated. And I finally did disable them. I've wanted to with previous versions but kept them because of the custom smilies, but it's just not enough anymore!

I dislike them. But I live and breathe my custom emotes so I don't care.
The new MSN has all kinds of stupid problems. The new smilies are just the tip of the iceberg.
