Soda, obviously.
Soda! "Would you like SOME soda?"
Pop! "Would you like A pop?"
Sodapop! "I'm old!"
Coke! "I'm from the South and we call everything Coke!"
Soda, obviously.
Soda is the only correct answer.
They
mean
the
same
thing!
OKAY!?
soda
This is the lamest argument that has ever existed in the history of the world, nay, the universe.
Oh, look, the good part of the country calls it "pop" and the shallow plastic part calls it "soda." How interesting. The hillbillies just call it "coke."
Having spent all of my life between Texas and Illinois and going on several trips to various parts of the country with my father when he was a truck driver, I have only ever heard it referred to as "soda" except by my Illinois grandparents, who called it pop. I never realized that so many people below the age of forty used any other word until these threads started popping up.
Bunny's graph is either before my time or very inaccurate because never in the ten years I lived in Nueces county have I ever heard anyone ask me if I wanted a coke, unless they were specifically referring only to Coca Cola. Maybe only old people were polled?
EDIT:
Oh, when I was a kid and people used that "talking to a little kid" voice with me, I was often asked by my family if I wanted a "sodie-pop."
My Grandaddy used to call it Pop. I went "what?" the first time he said that to me.
What is the "other?" What else is there to call it?
I call them all coke, the same way you call tissues Kleenex. Next to that, I also use the word soda. I never use the word pop, because that's immoral.
SODA.
Rhody are you making fun of me?
Signature by rubah. I think.
