You can search various websites for that info like this one.

The moogle will tell you when you've found all chocographs and chocograph pieces in an area, so if he hasn't told you anything yet, there's more to be found.

Its been a month or two since i last played FFIX so if he did say it...i can't remember.
I've tried looking for it online but one site said lagoon, another said forest.

Just keep digging anywhere where there are still Chocographs to be found, the Chocograph Pieces turn up at very random intervals, I remember once taking forever to find any and then four turned up over the space of an hour or two.
