Woman sues Google for exposing her underwear on Street View

If she's so antsy about her underthings being seen, I'm questioning why she is hanging them out to dry in public view in the first place.

Discuss 1) ridiculous things captured by Google Street View and 2) what Google Street View would have to capture you doing in order for you to want to sue them.

My gf (who is getting her doctorate in psychology) confirmed how serious OCD can be, especially in this case, so I don't really blame the lady for doing what she did. $7,000 is a pretty paltry sum anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

The fact that OCD can be incredibly serious does not in any way impact how Google should be liable. I have no idea about Japanese law, but under US tort law this lawsuit would fail horribly. There is nothing wrong with taking a single photograph of something in public view.

I don't particularly care what Google Street sees, as I'm sure I have posted more embarrassing pictures publicly on the internet.

I love Street View. It saves me the trouble of having to sneakily hide in bushes and carefully take photos of women's clothes. One time I even saw a BRA!!!

Also I once passed a Google Street view car and made the best face ever at it. But they didn't use the image and I was heartbroken because I'd already called all my friends and family and told them I was going to be on Street View. Boy was my Paul's Street View Debut Party an awkward occasion.

Clothes dryers are very rare in Japan; most people hang their laundry outside to dry. Seeing underwear hanging isn't uncommon.

I get that she has OCD, and I have no problem with her asking Google to remove the image, but suing is ridiculous. I'm having a hard time being mad at her, though, since she's suing for such a small amount, so... whatever.
