In the Wrath of the Litch King expansion there are a ton of quests were you do something and the Arthas appears and says something like 'excellent, this only furthers my plans' and then disappears without killing you. I know around the start of WotLK the theory was that he had plans of ultimately corrupting you like he was. I didn't play for the latter half of the expansion, so I have no idea how that played out.
Maybe he needed some time for the whole Litch King/Arthas fusion to be worked out? Just kind of chill as he consolidated himself.I never understood the big deal. He seemed so invincible (defeated the elves, the kirin tor, etc) and then he spends his time in northerend as a lootbag.
