    Default Well, that's my mama!

My mom doesn't know anything about computers. She likes to think she does but she doesn't. She scrapbooks so she uses her computer for that mostly, how I don't know.

According to her her pictures file told her to download something so she could crop them and other junk. Now she can't get on the internet. She gets this:

    (SPOILER)

She doesn't remember what she downloaded and the only way I know how to check is looking at her latest downloads, but I can't do that because of the pop-up. Does anybody recognize this and know how to fix it?

You might try downloading Firefox and copying the install across to her PC. If I remember correctly, you can check your recent downloads through any browser.

If you can't use IE itself to disable the toolbars, some toolbars are possible to uninstall through Control Panel -> Uninstall a program. Unless she actually uses any of those toolbars, just uninstall any you can find and see if it helps. If not, try running STOPzilla or something similar to see if it can remove it.

The thing is I'm not sure what it is I should be deleting. I'll just go through the list and take out whatever smells fishy. Thanks for the help.

I don't think PCs are meant to smell fishy, so that's the right approach. Alternatively, tell ma to stop eating at the computer!

sadly this is what the majority of PC users' browsers look like. Her computer is probably infested to the max with all different kinds of malware as well

the only solution is a linux install with zero permissions for her user account. Either that or tell her to stop clicking "yes" to every popup.

I told her to start running everything by me before she does anything. I'm tired of fixing her crap every 3 minutes.

An easy 'let another program do it for me' solution is to run a spyware scan on your mom's pc.

I insist you do this, even if you read that it's Peegee telling you advice on a EoFF forum.

    System Restore

Or if all she does is surf and crop pictures, replace Windows with Ubuntu
