The "final" dungeon as most accept being the Pharos is massive (quite possibly one of the longest I've encountered except maybe from Arc the Lad 2) and the lower half is completely optional.
I have not played Final Fantasy XII since its release, but I think of that long, tedious dungeon every time that I think of the game because of its expanse nature and the distinct lack of any character interaction or cutscenes throughout its duration. I cannot tolerate long dungeons like that without some sort of large gameplay reward or cutscenes to break up the monotony.
