I'm busy these days with little time to myself. One of the jobs I have, I do have a lot of time to myself and I get bored. But it's the situation that I can't just pick a book up and read because I have to put the book down anytime I get a customer. So I do have time but I don't. I've been thinking about getting some audiobooks but I don't know where.

I checked out audible.com but was suspicious, because I get that way, and googled their "free" trial. turns out it's a scam, It'll still charge you after you cancel and such. They also only have the books in a .aa format that it's ridiculously hard to change over to another format unless you use their player to play it or an ipod. I don't have an ipod xP

I want How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper because I like that kind of stuff and I want a silly fun romance novel to listen to. I don't want something super serious that I have to pay a lot of attention to. Something that'll put me in a good mood and I can just pause.

Anyone know of a good site that I can get stuff off of? Possibly for free

Also, Do any of you listen to audiobooks?

I recently got a Kindle, and I've heard you can get audiobooks on there but I haven't tried to so I'm not too sure. I know for a fact that Itunes carries a large amount of them but they can be pricey. I have a paranoid personality and tend not to trust free sites so I don't really know any.

I tried listening to Harry Potter on audiobook but hearing the old British dude try to do a Hermoine voice was breaking my balls. I have considered downloading a few to listen to while I fall asleep though.

I've used audible's free trial at least 10 or so times (all you need is a new credit card number + email address) and I have NEVER been charged after I canceled. I've been using Audible via their free trial and also through their paid subscription for 3 years. I listen to a lot of audiobooks.

• My Life in France - GREAT book, but awful narrator. It wasn't so bad that I couldn't get through it, since the book itself was fascinating.
• Her Fearful Symmetry - Fantastic narrator. Really great first half of the book, horrible ending.
• Casino Royale - Fantastic narration, insanely sexist/misogynistic book!

Recommended for fun, easy, maybe a little trashy listening

Some tips:

• Audiobooks with a full cast are almost always amazing. But they're hard to come by. It's like listening to a play.
• Audiobooks read by the author are almost always amazing. It's like listening to the author tell you a story since it's most likely going to be told in first person perspective.
• Listening to audiobooks of books that I've read often, or recently makes me fall asleep. It either has to be brand new or something I read years ago.
• Listen to samples of the audiobook, if the narrator annoys you in that 20 sec clip, they're going to bug the out of you if you listen to the whole thing.

There's a long list of books I didn't like at all in audiobook format. Life of Pi, Inkheart, Game of Thrones, American Gods, etc. Luckily with audible's free trials, you don't lose out too much if you pick up a stinker.

I cannot listen to audiobooks because I get distracted too easily and focus on other things, which means I don't listen to the person talking in my ear and miss everything.

I listen to audiobooks mostly while driving up and down the state of California.

I'm pretty sure there are times when I would have fallen asleep at the wheel if it weren't for audiobooks! Audiobooks can save lives!

I've listened to about two hours of that one I had posted earlier and I love it. It's kinda lighthearted and fun but he narrator does a perfect alaskan accent. Her male voices are kinda ugh but I like her narration.

I'll have to check out Dune. I've been meaning to actually read the book but haven't gotten around to it.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but i love audiobooks. I usually listen to autobiographies, usually of british comedians. Alan Carr, Michael McIntyre, Jack Dee. Its great listening to them recounting events in their lives.

A lot of people find The Silmarillion to be very dull reading but I frickin' loved it. I think the fact i used the audiobook version of it helped a lot.

I pretty much only use audiobooks because of my eyesight. It's just not practical for me to read long books.

Sean Bean read a children's version of the various Arthurian Legends.

Is Dune narrated with voice actors, or is it just done with voice actors creating the scenes without narration?

BBC's Lord of the Rings is done like a radioplay, which is interesting, but id rather listen to the authors words

I may have to check that out. Dune is hands down one of my favourite books (and series) ever.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I get a lot of them from TPB to be honest. I found Orson Scott Card's books there easily and have picked up many there since.

I've really considered an audible subscription. Can someone convince me. I mean, the dozens of podcasts I listen to all evangelize for it, but looking into their little point system seems a little frustrating. I mean, I'd subscribe and get basically a book a month, right?

Hell, I finished the entire Hunger Games trilogy in 2 days. So what happens when I blaze through a book and have to wait until the next month to get another one? Doesn't the subscription fee just end up being roughly the equivalent of buying the audiobook elsewhere and with less DRM?

I also hate that I can't import my outside books like from Librivox (great place for hit or miss free audiobooks of public domain works) to the Audible app. I want a better audiobook player and Audible is certainly a good player, but I hate that the ecosystem is so locked down.
