I don't understand how that's going to work. Isaac Hempstead-Wright (plays Bran) is 15. When we see him again, he's going to have changed so much. Unless the storyline involves the Bran character aging overnight, that's going to annoy me. Perhaps it's a silly gripe, but that's just something that irritates me: obvious changes in the actor when the character shouldn't be changing. It's going to very difficult for the showrunners to pull off a convincing chronology going forward. Not just for Bran's storyline either. Still looking forward to season 5 though.

I'm not going to read that for fear of spoilers. But actors change. Especially young ones. So it's bound to happen. I guess they should have known really early on the little kid was going to be around for a long time and perhaps tried to find an actor who just naturally looked super young as an adult, so there wouldn't be any growing going on. Or just change out actors every season like they've done with a couple other characters; which I find even more disturbing than an actor growing up. But perhaps there's more going on to warrant the distaste than I realize since I haven't read the article

I don't really understand why they sped the Bran story up, if they're not going to continue it in S5. Why didn't they just put less focus on the Bran story in S4 and then get to the point we're at during some point in S5? Doesn't make sense to cut them out for an entire season.

Not sure if I believe this source entirely, to be honest.

Yeah, good point. It's just an article I was linked to and thought I'd share.

They should have just invented a side story for Bran that would distract him until everything catches up to his story. Instead, they just drag it out and it's boring. Who cares if Bran goes off on some magical adventure that's not in the books? He should have joined up with Jon for a while and had some adventures on The Wall before moving along on whatever his path is. The writers for the show are lazy.

I don't think the book readers' wishes are really being considered for the plot points in the show's story. If they ever were, they certainly aren't now.

Sometimes literary occurrences don't translate as well to the screen and vice versa.

They're going to have to really go further and further away from the books here on out, so why not add something to Bran's story? So far most of the changes to the show have been subtractions, displacements, or switches, why not some legitimate additions?

The more I think about it, though, I think we'll see Bran & co. in the coming season. Dropping an entire plotline for a whole season would be silly. So they rushed Bran's plot in order to not have enough Bran plot for season 5? What? That's bass-ackwards. I think the quote is either
    a. fabricated
    b. a joke
    c. out of context

They might be going more the way of Crows/Dragons in the coming seasons - splitting up plotlines and designating certain seasons for specific stories.

I think that's a terrible idea for the show. It's too long between seasons for that. I mean, it might work for readers, but I can't imagine it working for showonlies.

For all the ragging on book readers, I really don't see that many complaints from book readers about the changes made for the show. xD Most book readers seem overall happy about the way the show, imo!

I've read 3/5 of the books and I don't give two smurfs about what they change for the show. Some things work for TV, some work for print. I think most people are smart enough to acknowledge that.

Filler chapters where no real action happens but you get some introspection from some main characters work perfectly fine in books (in moderation). That kind of stuff makes for boring TV, though. Also, splitting up your main cast to have adventures all over the world is a fine world-building literary device. On TV it just makes you annoyed. Actors need to feed off each other to be effective. The best scenes in the TV show have come with the interactions of main characters, some of which aren't even in the books (like Arya/Tywin).

I think they missed a great opportunity with Bran to have some interaction with Jon Snow. Not only would it have been fun to watch it would have also stalled Bran's storyline enough to give him screen time while not getting too ahead of the pace of the books.

I wouldn't really mind if they deviated from the books - indeed, they did really heavily with Bran's storyline this season anyway and it was fine, indeed somewhat exciting - but not Bran and Jon meeting. I'm assuming there's going to be a big Stark Family Reunion at some point and having them meet now would cheapen the pay off for that.

    Yeah, pretty much that.

Also, once Jon Snow had Bran, you know he's not letting him get away. I guess he could've escaped during the battle/episode 9, but it would've been a bit contrived.

The thing about the show, is that I don't even care they're deviating from the plot. It's that they ride it juuuuuust close enough to not establish itself as an actual separate entity from the books. They either need to embrace it or follow the plot of the books. trout or get off, etc. Although, to be fair, more and more it seems they're heading down their own course.
