I really don't get why they cut that. It's going to completely gut Tyrion's motivations for his actions over the next two seasons. The number of time he obsesses over Tywin's "Wherever whores go" line in his internal monologue in Dance numbers in the double digits.

As I've seen around the internet (and could figure out on my own) it's mostly because Tysha hasn't been mentioned since what, season 2? Season 1? Show-only people might have a hard time remembering who she is.

I'm not justifying the cut, just what seems to be the consensus on WHY it was cut.

I'm really happy they had the balls to kill off Shae.

I agree, Jinx. The books tell you what people are thinking, the TV show doesn't. The Tysha thing in the book is entirely in Tyrion's mind and it would be hard to convey on the TV show. The show already has so many characters, I'm shocked people who haven't read the book can keep up. Each character gets barely a couple minutes of screentime each week to tell their story. They've done a lot of combining characters and plotlines together probably in an effort to keep things simple, and I think it's worked well so far.

It's not all in his mind. He asks it of enough people for it to be apparent that it's something he is fixated on. It would have been feasible to keep within the show. They've managed to take an overwhelming amount of liberties so far, and could have written it in to be appropriately fitting in one way or another.

I've been reading the books in parallel with the show (almost done with ASoS) and I'm not noticing an 'overwhelming' amount of liberties. It's been remarkably consistent, and it will never be a perfect adaptation (nor should it).

It could simply be that the producers know something we don't and perhaps the revelation doesn't have an impact on the end-story. With everything else they're going to want to put on screen with that storyline, it may have been an unnecessary distraction.

Not to be petty, but here's a list off the top of my head, and I'm sure there are a myriad of others out there on the internet xD

up to and a little bit in to ADWD
    Ros
    Cold Hands
    Jojen's death
Missing Vargo Hoat, kindof a little bit replaced by Locke
    Missing Edric Storm
    Missing Patchface
    Tyrion's messed up face
Renly & Loras were spelled out as being gay
Arya & Tywin instead of Arya & Roose
Pod being sent to squire for Brienne
The Hound and Arya meeting Brienne and Pod
    The Hound's "death"
    Missing Strong Belwas
Sansa confessing who she is to Bronze Yohn Royce and his little group in an effort to save Littlefinger
Robb's wife Talisa, the entire omission of the Westerlings
Ilyn Payne teaching Jaime to swordfight instead of Bronn
    Asha/Yara
    The characterization of Shae
Jon had already been elected Commander by the time Stannis reached the Wall
and now the omission of Tysha and "where do whores go" with Tywin's death
    House of the Undying

Overall, sure, the plot has basic consistencies, but many liberties have been taken.

I guess we have different definitions of liberties.

I'm happy with how they've handled the book-to-show conversion so far, so I'll definitely hold off on judging the decision to leave out Tysha until I see what comes of it.

Yeah, I'm thinking if Tyrion ever finds Tysha in the books, I'll be very surprised now.

The only alterations that I've been displeased by have been the omission of Renly's peach, and Tyrion and Jaime's goodbye being cut. The later of which I will probably end up forgiving; it's too early to tell. I certainly don't mind changes, but if it's a simple thing that they leave out that would've improved the characterizations... I'm a bit bothered, sure.

They've taken huge liberties with Daenarys's story the most to try to make it less trout and boring.

Season 2 was the biggest one. Nobody stole her dragons, there was no mass Qarth master murder, she did not lock Xaro Xhoan Daxos (who was white as hell xD) and Doreah (who randomly dies in the desert of some disease) in a vault. Xaro hits on her, she says no, so he eventually bores of trying to woo her and tells her to gtfo his house.

I didn't mention it before but I was chuckling like a mothersmurfer when Jon suggested that Stannis burn the bodies. Like duh mothersmurfer Stannis burns everything that's his jam. He's blessed by it and trout. So even though I think Stannis is a bit of a knob sometimes (thank smurf for Davos ey) I am hedging all of my bets on him smurfing over the White Walkers.
