Going back to what Del and Shorty were saying, there were defintely a lot of nonsensical things that occurred in this finale. My bf pointed out the horse thing as well and it is odd. The finale wasn't great but ended where it should have. The best episode this season was definitely the one with the white walkers. I will say this, they need to stop dragging things out. They still have a lot things to cover. It has become a chore to watch this show for the most part which is unfortunate considering I was truly invested in it for the previous seasons.

Why am I watching this series again?

This is what this made me feel like. The answer I've arrived at is that the main reason I like(d) watching this series is because I was interested in the characters and their plights. For a while it was pretty good... but it moved away from that as time went on. This season was both the high point and the low point for me. Episode 8 and 9 were really great, some of the best episodes of the entire series as far as I'm concerned. But Episode 10 had me grit my teeth in frustration. So much that could've made for really interesting plotlines just kinda... ending. Or at least losing just about all chance of being an actually engaging, interesting, gripping plotline.

Worse yet, it made me remember how many good characters the show *used* to have. I remembered Rob and Catelyn and how interesting it was to watch their storyline(s) unfold. Seeing it end the way it did was an incredibly shocking moment and they did that scene well, but in retrospect it feels like they cut off a world of potential for that one shocker. I remembered when Reek was still a proud Theon Greyjoy, conflicted as he was taking over the place he used to call home. I remembered when Sansa still managed to go through most of the show physically unharmed thanks to the efforts of Tyrion and others, which always felt like a nice touch.

With the Jon Snow Death ending the series drove itself into a corner for me. If they go with it and he stays dead, that sucks because watching Jon Snow's struggles was a high point for me this season, and I was really looking forward to seeing how it progresses. But if they don't go with it and he returns? Sucks too, because at this point not committing to it will make having this season end on that scene feel entirely pointless and cliffhangery for no reason, which is also frustrating in a different way. So it's a lose-lose-situation now.

I'll still watch it to the end because I'm still curious about how it'll turn out. Just curious, no longer really invested. And I'll also keep going because I hate abandoning a story halfway.

I'm imagining a point where everyone literally dies in the show, and then they all come back from the dead. And then the show just continues as normal for a few more seasons, except everyone is undead now.

Here's how they should have done the Stannis storyline:

Episode 9 - Mel continues to implore Stannis sacrifice his daughter for certain victory against Bolton. Stannis refuses since this is the line he won't cross. His wife disagrees and tries to make the sacrifice in secret. Stannis finds out and has her killed (there's your omg moment).

Episode 10 - Stannis's army remains intact and he marches on. Mel gives up on this nonsense and heads up to Castle Black. Stannis sends Davos to get her since he still needs her magic. Stannis is still overwhelmed by Bolton but at least there is an actual fight and maybe even show some actual battle scenes to trick the viewer into thinking he had a shot. Then cut to the devastated army and Bolton's more or less intact. Stannis is stumbling through the woods and comes across his guard (all dead) and the body of Shireen. It was pointless to keep her alive, consistent with how this show works. That's when Brienne shows up.

I don't see how this in any way changes the overall narrative and at least this would give Stannis (who we followed through 4 seasons) more closure and it would be more consistent with each of the characters.

Littlefinger is going to betray the Boltons and rock up in the North with a Vale army anyway "oh yes I'm here to reinforce after that whole Stannis business you say do you like ladders" so the whole battle was entirely pointless to begin with.

That stabby mcstabby scene was hard to watch because it was just so mean (you stupid punks, he's trying to save you all and there's an army of the undead marching towards you! Knuckleheads!) but it didn't really strike an emotional cord with me because OF COURSE he's coming back. When he's lying there with his blood pooling out, my reaction wasn't dismay or sadness or anger, it was literally, "Oh, they left his head on. For sure he's coming back then."

Zero percent chance they don't bring him back. I'm honestly surprised by how many people got so upset after the episode aired. I couldn't believe the reaction was so visceral when it seemed so clear that he's not gonna stay dead. In the same vein, I don't think Stannis is dead. At least not yet. If it didn't happen on screen then it didn't happen at all.

The horse thing with Mel really bothered me.
