I don't stub my toe too often, but the last time I can recall it involved the nail coming off the toe. That toe still makes weird popping noises even though it was years ago. That's probably why I don't stub my toe much anymore. That was a lesson learned.

Whenever I stub my tow if I'm at home I put a bag of frozen peas or corn on my foot and it numbs the pain.
Make sure the bag is sealed though or your peas/corn will have the unwanted taste of foot
