I have a thing for crossbows, guns, and battle axes.

I always found crossbows to miss a lot when I used them, maybe I'll give them another try, and axes are amazing of course.

Crossbows do have sucky accuracy. I forgot about axes. I had found one in my first playthrough on the Leviathan and Basch was a beast with it.

Exactly. And the worst of all was that most of the "specific set of chests that you don't have to open" is practically at the beginning of the game! I didn't read a FAQ about weapons until well after half and I did it 'cause my other weapons were fine, but I wanted more power (bwhahahahaha).

As for my fav type, I would go for long swords, axes and spears. Guns and crossbows normally miss and I don't really like daggers.

Guns have 100% accuracy, what're you smokin'?
I have to say I wouldn't be so annoyed by the zodiac spear if it was mentioned SOMEWHERE in the game.

Tie between Greatswords & Spears. Both have tremendous accuracy and attack power and they all look frickin' awesome (although I wish Deathbringer was a Greatsword too)... speaking of which, the later 1-Handed Swords look sweet, I don't care what their attack ratings are. I don't heart axes. They can be strong, they can be weak, they can miss a hell of a lot. Help my brain navigate that maze. I don't have much to say on the guns, I'm usally a bit of a hysterical cowboy at heart but none of the guns in the game fit my style. Meanwhile, my favorite bows are the Burning Bow and the Loxley Bow, the only bowgun I like is Gastrophetes. The Whale Whisker & Storm Staff both look like they could be spears. Handbombs have their uses, but I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan. I hate the measures. Once you can cast the spell on yourself, these weapons become useless. You never miss when casting a beneficial spell on yourself, but although the measures still deal you damage, there's no guarantee the effect will add.

Dual-Wielding... lol, wouldn't that be sweet? Wielding a second dagger really should have been an option IMO. I wish ye could wield twin Katana. I would choose Murasame and Ame-no-Murakumo. Or maybe...

Guns are pretty "meh" on this game. The only one I used was the final one to train up my lower leveled teammates. For guns they're really quite slow and don't even pack that much of a punch. Dual wielding katanas... they're already sexy as is dual wielding would just break the game XD
Dual-wield katana + berserk + critical health + genji glove = oh dear lord

I love how each type of weapon has a unique use. Unfortunately some types are only useful only in very unique situations or are completely overshadowed by other weapons (bowguns ;_;!). Guns are pretty awesome sometimes. I like using the poles, but they're not quite as effective as some other weapons.

Penelo is a brilliant pole dancer. Giving her the whale whisker was such a fantastic idea I don't regret it

I got my Morning Star from the Lhusu Mines. The first time, I was on a hunt for the Antlion and didn't prep properly for the fight, so I died and lost my Morning Star. I had to reload the game about fifty times to get the weapon to appear in the coffer again. I guess I'm just glad that it never turned into a mimic.

I wish the weapons had more noticeable strengths and weaknesses rather than falling back on the "strongest attack rating = most damage" formula. I like some of the weapons being able to hit with Sap and Poison.

Hello have you ever used a gun? The attack rating is usually half of the other weapons at the same tier, but they ignore enemy defense! On some enemies they don't have any special advantage, but on others, stone ones especially, you'll be dealing triple the damage as other weapons! Very noticeable! Elemental staves can also provide a huge advantage. Equiping one and casting the corresponding element against an enemy weak to it can allow you to wipe out a huge mob with one spell!

    EDIT:

And of course poles, which take attack rating and magic defense into account, rather than attack rating and defense. Pretty handy against enemies with a high defense.

My mage always uses the corresponding stave and I've noticed how amazing it truely is. Also I DO love me some guns but unless you have all the correct bullets the damage can be subpar with the slower attack speed. They're nice but unless you're well prepared (like moi) they aren't too fantabulous.

I had pretty much only used Swords, one hammer and one bow. But, I've always loved swords more than anything else. :\
