I consider marriage to be meaningless to begin with, so I certainly don't care if people have kids outside of it. In fact, I think more people should have kids without getting married so we could figure out some better way of naming children, instead of wife and kids taking the father's name -- a vestigial of a primitive and disgusting time when women and children were property of Man.
And before anyone says it, hyphenation is ridiculous. Personally, I think people should just make up a cool last name for their kids and forget useless middle names entirely. This would dramatically increase the variation and awesomeness of last names.
