Last time Britain was conquered? Roman Empire, yeah? Although I suppose technically that's more "England and Wales were conquered", not Britain as a whole.

Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Urm... BoB I think he was talking about our revolutionary war. Seeing as they were talking about the semantics between the two countries. The more
you knowthat goes over your head.
Oh, sorry. When referring to wars, 'the war' usually refers to 'World War II' when you use it outside of America, hence my confusion.
EDIT: In response to Bunny: The land that the US covers was last conquered in the 1600/1700's, I would imagine, around the time that the Europeans colonised it. If you mean the country/nation, then The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has also never been conquered. Not that I care either way, as I'm a New Zealander.![]()

Britain didn't lose World War 2, at least to my knowledge, which would make that conclusion complete nonsense.
Actually under the context it was used in, it was perfectly alright to be referenced as "the war". Seeing as it directly involved The U.S. and Britain and that was what they were talking about. Had something like "that's why we had to come in to save you in the war" been said, in that context "the war" would refer to WWII. Context, it's great when trying to get your meaning across.

"hence my confusion"
It might be 'perfectly alright' for someone who is brought up with the American Revolution as compulsory reading, but for me, I had no idea what Bunny was talking about.Originally Posted by Lekana

EDIT: Unless it was a Vietnam war vet talking in a stereotypical way about "the war". Although they'd probably refer to it as "'nam" rather than "the war".

'The war' can be referenced to anything. As in the current war or any. "The war has caused a lot of deaths" Could mean a lot of different wars. The Iraqi, Afghan, Vietnam, Desert storm, WWII, etc etc. Saying it's associated with one is just silly. Even if the fact we're in the U.S., that's just a silly way to look at it. Maybe we were learnededed betters. As I said BoBbles, it's context. That you missed hehe.
EDIT: It's ok, the wonder boy will catch these things. He's smarts! GO TEAM JIRO!
The land, yes, but the country itself is an entirely different matter. It doesn't take much to walk into a relatively empty space that isn't owned by anyone and say "I own this now. This is mine."EDIT: In response to Bunny: The land that the US covers was last conquered in the 1600/1700's, I would imagine, around the time that the Europeans colonised it. I do not understand the hangup. I do not understand how the context could be confused at all. I think you're just trying to save yourself right now. You can be honest, it's okay. People are wrong sometimes.
How to get BoB to be a more active member/poster:
1) Mention his judgement about said topic flippantly in a thread. Gain luls
2) He magically appears!
3) Question/laugh at/reply directly to his posts
4) He posts more!
SUCESS! BoB just posted more and is semi active again!
The Canadians like to claim that they did that.
Awww, they must have learned how to steal credit for British military victories from you lot. That's cute.
