The Grangalan enemies? The smallest ones are called Grangalan Jr. Jr. and drops the least gil, the middle ones only have one Jr. in their name and drops a bit more, while the big one is simply Grangalan and drops the most. So while they don't drop a lot of gil, the "older" ones drop more.

Or one could reason another way and say that if you kill the Grangalan before it reproduces it doesn't give a whole lot, but if you let it reproduce and then kill the offspring, you'll get a good deal more. That way it "improves with age" too, in a way.

    FFXIV Character

    Legendary Hero (Sargatanas)

    You decide
    I do improve
    With age, maybe

Unlikely I know but... Sephiroth in his final form, one might consider him stingy as the final battle you get no EXP from him but you do get to see the ending, the do I improve with age, maybe could be a reference to the level of your party, if you level to 99 his strength is increased, but only if you are level 99.

It's not Sephiroth in any of his forms.

Huge HintThe lines are refering to the external meanings of the monster's name, not in-game.

Hmmm...I keep trying to think of a monster that mimes you or your level or abilities or something, but can't think of any. So my guess is: Behemoth

    Resurrection!

Reading through all the hints for this riddle, I'm wondering if it might be some kind of mythological reference. Like one of the names of the enemies might be a mangled reference to some mythological character who fits the description posted in the riddle. Midgar Zolom, for instance, is a mangling of Midgarðsormr from Norse mythology - I know Midgar Zolom has already been guessed, but I'm wondering if there are any other enemies whose names are mistranslations of mythological names. Am I on the right track?

    Welcome aboard!

It's not from mythology, but you have the right idea. Lines 1 & 2 refer to the origin of a particular product with this name, while lines 3 & 4 refer to something else with the same name that's consumable.

The rather questionable answer is "Hedgehog Pie." How a hedgehog is "stingy" is beyond me, but "pie" is the only consumable item that appears as the second word of a monster's name. Pies don't generally improve with age - actually, they tend to go bad - but the number "pi" does become more accurate as you use more decimal places. Alternately, as the concept has grown older, we've found more accurate decimal places for it.

Ahh, of course, that makes sense. And hedgehogs are stingy because they have spines. Spines that sting you. Therefore they're stingy.

I'd say you got it, congratulations.

It's not Hedgehog Pie, but you're close.

    Think drinks.

Well, wine improves with age, but I can't find any monsters with names that relate to wine... or any other alcoholic drinks (or drinks at all), for that matter. Or maybe there's some kind of brand that I'm not familiar with that's referenced in one of their names.

Edit: The only answer I could think of is Scotch. Scotch isn't a monster, but his name is also a type of whisky (which does improve with age), and also a name for someone from Scotland, and the Scottish have a reputation for being stingy.
