I think it's the guy in the shop in Wall Market. At first he ignores you but then he implores you to do him a favour. You spend the night at the inn (his rival). Purchase something from the vending machine and take it back to the guy in the shop in the morning. He then scorns his rival because his merchandise is better. He then gives you a Tiara (I think) as part of your disguise to get into Don Corneo's mansion. Is it that guy?

It sounds right. I've been looking at these riddles for four months and never felt confident enough to offer an answer. I've got my own riddle waiting just in case! I'll wait for Cloudpsx1 to confirm before posting

Quick spelling question just to be sure, in the last line you do mean stile not style, correct?
"Avalanche's stile" has me stumped.
"Easily missed" makes me think that the answer is an item that can be missed if you don't search for it.
Off topic: Does anyone else think that the Final Fantasy Games (all of them) have the average animal (deers, birds, house cats, etc.) and that we only fight the ones that are a true danger to us (the playable characters)?
