Oh, I see it now. FFXIII's battle system is supposed to be the 'evolution' of X-2. Or maybe the combination of X-2 and XII. Changing jobs in battle, chaining attacks, use of a quick charging ATB gauge. Well that's balls. Way to take something great and bastardize the best aspects of it.

Fast is fine, having the rating system depend on that alone is not.

The scoring system is a good idea and encourages more efficient play but it can't be implemented without frustrate the player because of stuff like Lvs, grinding and pre-battle buff items.

FFXIII implements slots and command decks AKA paradigms rather command menu, it is not an evolution or combination of X-2 and XII IMO.

    Paradigm decks = dressphere grids

X-2 and XIII are pretty damn similar. Really the big difference is in X-2 you customize the job deck and commands of each character individually, when in XIII you do it for the entire group. Selecting each individual command is not much different than selecting a string of commands to be executed at once. The ATB still charges all the same. It just makes things faster.

The point of ratings is nothing more than to give you a challenge. Yes, it is good to dominate battles - but in all honesty, it's very easy to do such a thing as well, far easier than effectively managing your HP while at the same time beating the enemy to death swiftly and effectively. It should be noted that at no point does the game force you into getting a high star rating, so you don't need to worry about that if you want to play the game safe. However, if you want achievements/trophies, then this is something you can do after you have beaten the game - focus on ratings to see how fast you can obliterate the enemy. Many people can think that this is rewarding recklessness, but it is not - it is more giving you something to do and encouraging you to try different tactics to see which is the most effective at defeating different targets. I quite liked the system - not because I like fast battles, but because I like challenges.

And let's face it, in XIII, there aren't many challenges due to the lack of sidequests. I enjoyed figuring out ways to beat all the marks with five stars, though. Although the Jumbo Cactuar was a bitch.

Eh, I carry Random: Instant Chain on almost all my characters, and I figured out very swiftly that getting it to activate was much easier than bothering with any strategy on Jumbo Cactuar, especially since the Target Time is so insanely low, no matter what your gear or stats are.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

Huh, I didn't know they affected what items you got after battle. I figured they only mattered on the Hunts/Final Boss.
    I like Kung-Fu.
