Unfortunately, Hasbro vetoed the whole "continual story arc" idea. They felt it would be too hard for people to just join in on midway, which might end up hurting their toy sales.

I know and more's the pity since some animated series have had great story arcs. Avatar: the Last Airbender springs to mind. Batman:TAS fell somewhere in between. It's not like catching up with old episodes would be hard.
All the same I see their point, but I'm looking at it more from a writer's perspective than one of marketing toys.
Hopefully the extreme success of the show far beyond the target demographic (seriously, there is no chance anyone at Hasbro ever thought this show would dominate 4chan or wind up being discussed lovingly on a Final Fantasy board) will cause Hasbro to give the writers a little more freedom.

I'm hoping for some better merchandise to come out of that, as well.
Also, I'll bet you all now, they're talking about a movie. A FiM movie could be produced relatively cheaply and would rake in tens of millions with this fanbase, I've no doubt.

I saw this starting to gain steam and hated the world. Then slowly... So slowly, i became open to it. Then, even intrigued. Now, I'm cruisin the "whats new" on netflix daily praying it shows up. Satiating myself with the you tubes. I am a brony alone.
