Thank you for your reply Uncle Big Hands. I have looked through your review of the episode, and to be honest, I do agree with some points on it.

The biggeset is the finish. Its ending had next to nothing to do with any of our main six characters, and instead falls fully on two characters we have barely had a chance to get to know. I mean the time we've had with Cadence wasn't even half an episode.

As much as I loved this episode, for the most part I actually agree to this. I did like how Shining Armor and Cadance were used, and I actually didn't mind them saving the day with their love because I thought that was beautiful. However, it would have been better to have the mane six too.

What I think would have been better, is if they'd kept the ending where Shining and Cadance's love is used to defeat the villain, but it doesn't work to its fullest - the changing thing is too strong, after all she's done, and the mane six use their elements to back the love up. That would actually make this beautiful scene even more heart warming, as it would emphasize the stong link between friendship and love (i.e. love needs friendship to be at full strength, if you catch my meaning.)

Then there is the issue of the blatently evil Cadence. How the hell did anyone NOT figure this out? The fake clearly didn't do all that much research, she didn't even realize Twilight was Shining's sister.

You could make the argument that perhaps she was using her magic to do so, but why didn't she just do it to Twilight? If it's because of twilights skill in magic it may not have worked on her, then how would it have fooled Celestia?

I'll give you the Celestia/Twilight thing at least for now. I think she probably did use her magic on the others, as we saw her use it on Shining. There is a chance that she managed to fool Celestia with the whole "My wedding is too stressful, so I may be a bitch sometimes", but it still sounds dubious. You're probably right here.

I'm not bothered by the Idea of the Shapechangers being here to feed on the inhabitants, but more the plan is a bit fuzzy. First off, did the fake get here before or after the barrier was put up? It seems her goal was to go after SA specifically in order to take down the barrier, but then how did she get in to begin with?
And then there was the actual fight with the Changelings, which was great and fun, but ended up not mattering in the slightest.

I think what Proto said. Also, there's a chance the fight mattered in that the minions could have backed up the Queen, but from the way the "Power of Love" thing happened you may be right. Hence more need for my version.

And I'm bothered by the introduction of Shining too. Not the character or the fact he exists mind you, but it was baddly handled. Twilight was so pissed about this not being told he was getting married? Really? This is a guy who has not come to see her ANY of the times they've been in Canterlot, and the guy she cares SO MUCH about she hasn't mentioned him once in the entirety of these two seasons?

For the first part, I can possibly guess that the reason he was never around was because he was part of the Royal Guards and wouldn't be allowed to socialise with anyone, though I could be wrong. The fact that, Twilight knows Celestia makes this seem like a poor excuse though, but it's up there with other coninuity errors this show has produced.

I get your problem with Twilight not mentioning Shining before now, especially after hearing a song about how close they were when they were younger. It didn't bother me that much that we'd never heard that Twilight had a brother before now, as a lot of shows introduce family members without an prior refferences to them, annoying, I grant you, but that's how it works in writing. You probably didn't notice this, seeing as you hate the CMC, but there was never at any point even the slightest indication that Rarity had a sister either, and then all of a sudden "boom" - there she was. I would have forgiven them more if they had at least covered their tracks with Shining Armor though, like contained a piece of dialogue in which Twilight mentions that they usually write to each other or something, it's just we don't see it. It would be a passable cover up.

I do wonder though, if Lauren knew when she created Shining that he was going to be Twilight's brother? Lauren created both Shining Armor and Cadance, as well as the basis for the storyline before she left the show, but certain things were changed in her absense (Cadance wasn't an alicorn originally), so that could account for it too.

And I'm boggled by thier refusal to get Luna involved in the story. They had the perfect opportunity to do so. That's not really a major complaint, just me wondering what went through their head.

This actually one of the complaints I already had. The more I think of it, the more I think they included Luna purely because they knew that the fans wanted to see her again, but since they had no purpose for her they didn't use her. It was like they were saying "Okay bronies, we included Luna, now shut up about her already!"

Question, why the heck did the queen TELL everyone in advance she was gonna do this, if she hadn't none of this would have happened.

For some reason, the bad guys just love explaining their plans in full detail. It happens all the time, in everything - I wouldn't be suprised if there's a trope for it...

I actually wasn't bothered by them bringing up that Sweetie Belle was Rarities sister. It was introduced quite cleanly I thought, and more importantly she wasn't brought up out of the blue to be involved in some pretty big contrivances like Shining Knight did.

Yeah that's kind of a good point to be honest. I still need to find out whether Shining being Twilight's brother was planned back when this storyline was first drafted (around season 1), or that was another thing Hasbro changed on their own.

Don't bother if he doesn't want to watch. Unless he has an open mind and wouldn't mind watching a single episode. If that's the case, try watching any of the two-parters. I'd recommend the opening episodes of Season 2. If you manage to finish the first episode and he wants to check out the following episode, you successfully changed his mind about ponies and made him one step closer to bronyhood.
