Square Enix to announce a new MMO this fiscal year.

At an investor meeting, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada announced that they plan to announce a third MMORPG by the end of this fiscal year (April 2012). It's development will apparently be concurrent with continued development of Final Fantasy XI and XIV.

Unless they dream up something FF unrelated, I think they'll split their fanbase. How many people are going to play two S-E MMOs? This doesn't seem like a good idea at all.

Yeah, it will be hard for many SE fans to choose between this new game and FFXI.

I hope to heck it is not Ivalice Online. Just because, from SE's current track record, it would be a horrible game, and Ivalice Online should be awesome. Currently, I don't think the company would do it justice.

Also, yeah, they need to cut down and projects and focus on them more, not just churn out massive numbers.

They have been talking about tapping into Facebook games etc. more often and those are for some reason considered MMOs, so the rumour mill is doing it's math and suggesting the new MMO will be F2P and/or a Facebook style game.

Yeah, if it's a full on MMORPG, I call such bull on that. There's no way unless they are seriously dumber than anyone thinks.

But like a Final Fantasy style Farmville? I could totally get on board with that. Maybe they'll do something like World of Magic for iphone/Ipad, I would loooove that!

If they do an MMO, they should do a Monster Hunter style MMO. More of an action type RPG. I did hear they are making(have made?) a game that plays very similar to Monster Hunter.

I agree it makes more sense that they are jumping in to the social media platform with Facebook, F2P and the like. Very interesting to see what they really intend to do.
