Thread: Spittin' Mad Rhymes In Yer Face

Cookie Spittin' Mad Rhymes In Yer Face

This is the hip-hop thread. Discuss hip-hop.

I find that my passion of hip-hop rises with my BAL. I also like sluttier songs when this happens.

Lupe Fiasco and that Lil John Song where they talk about Gettin' Low. That's all.

I don't really listen to enough. RJD2 and Nujabes are probably my favorite.

Eminem and Immortal Technique remain my favorites after all these years.

Honorable mention goes to Aesop Rock and Del the Funky Homosapien (along with his associated acts).

I've been on a mad '90s hip hop kick all through 2011 so far. Dre, Snoop, Biggie, a little Tupac. smurfing great stuff. It chills me out.

I still got love for recent artists, though. Lil Wayne can feel like a sellout sometimes but there's no denying his flow and cleverness in his lyrics. People like to hate on him, but I'm still reppin' Kanye, too. He's a nut but he's also shaken up the game with every album he's released. Been listening to some more Jay-Z lately, but I haven't gotten into it as much; Hova's stuff seems like such an awkward transition from g-funk and gangster music to what we have nowadays. It's hard to not appreciate it on some level but there's a lot of misses that go with the hits.

And Lupe Fiasco is a smurfing god among men. He was interviewed on Tavis Smiley about creating Lasers and the way he described it is so inspiring. I haven't had a chance to check the new album out but I want to someday. I need to catch up with his other material first, though (I haven't listened to anything of his since Food & Liquor, but that one's timeless anyways, and I find something new with each listen)

    Thought this should be mentioned.

Dirty songs by Two Live Crew by any chance?

I dislike the majority of popular Hip-Hop artists of this generation. Not because they're popular, but because they all rap about the same damn things over and over. Half of them are untalented, auto-tuning, annoying little turds i.e. Lil Wayne. I like rappers like Talib, Lupe, Wale, Mos, Hova, Nas, Apathy, Lauryn, and Common even though the later two need to put out new material.

Good point. I'm tired about hear rap songs about drinking or sluts. D: It's probably why I like Japanese hip-hop; they don't talk about that kind of stuff.

Nothing compares to 90's hip-hop. Nowadays I mostly listen to Common, 'tis great stuff.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Freddie Joachim. He is uh-mazing. Although no one can truly replace Nujabes, he's basically like the new Nujabes to me. Nomak is great too.

Nas, Common, Tupac, Lauryn Hill. 'Nuff said. Hell I'll throw Run-DMC in there too.

Those auto-tuners of today who rap about bling and hos and cars all the time really shouldn't even have careers, but they do, and that's sad.

Crazy how talented people slip under the radar these days and utter dreck rules above all.
Xenogears is the tragic story of how your whole life can take a crappy turn, just because you happened to see a lady in a wedding dress before her wedding.

Like Shiny I dislike the newer genertation of hip hop for the severe lack of imagination.

I listen to Nas, Joell Ortiz, AZ, Jin, Wu-Tang, Murs, Talib Kweli, Reks, Granite State, Termanology, Dialated Peoples, People Under The Stairs, Mobb Deep, Immortal Technique, and The Witchdoctor

Biggie, Nas, Kane, Kool G Rap, Jedi Mind Tricks, Aesop Rock, Sole, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Apathy, El-P, Company Flow, Murs, Jehst, Hiero (pretty much every member but exp. Casual & Del), Ill Bill, Percee P, Cormega, Big L, Brand Nubian, Braile, CunninLynguists, Brother Ali...i could go on.

Cant' stand ppl who list 2pac as a great. All he was was a hype merchant who started to believe he was the guy he played in the movies. A rapist, a slimey human being & a weak minded fool being warped by a fat ex footballer. Anyway
