From what I understand, the human equivalent would be amputating the tips of your fingers where the nail is. Sure they can get along fine, and a some cats wouldn't be hindered by it in a fight at all, but it just seems a little excessive. I'd prefer to just clip their nails every now and then. You can also buy little tips for their claws, but those can turn out badly if the cat rejects them.
