    Default Today I may die.

There is bacon in my refrigerator. It's open. I'm not sure how long it's been open. The sell by date is August 31. It is not green or slimy (yet) but it's not bright pink either.

I'm at war with myself whether or not to eat it. I could get super sick and die. Or I could pass up some scrumptious bacon. I think I'm going to risk it, because it doesn't smell bad yet.

Do you engage in any risky behaviors? Eating foods after their sell by date? Unprotected sex (with or without Cuch?) Skydiving?

    Signature by rubah. I think.

I frequently struggled with life and death questions such as this when I lived alone. Usually I would google "How long is [such and such] good after it is expired?" and weigh all the answers and then decide what to do. To google's (and my digestive system's) credit, I never died or even got sick.

Now that I live with five other people, however, food isn't around nearly long enough for me to face this issue anymore, which I guess is a good thing.

I don't really think I do anything else that's particularly risky. Other than driving with low air in my tires, I guess, because I tend to forget to fix that.

2010 or 2011? If it's 2011, smurf yeah, nothing wrong with that. 2010? You were one of the good ones.

If it was frozen, I would say it's iffy. If it's been sitting in the fridge, open for that long... trash it! I'm even trying to replace it with some food in my mind that I actually enjoy, so I'm not just saying this because I dislike bacon. I think even in the best case, you'll get some mad wicked s for an extended period of time. And that's a way to ruin a perfectly good Sunday.

There is plenty of bacon in the world. Go slaughter another pig.

If you do decide to eat it, just crisp it into charcoal first.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

I made brownies with eggs that had an expired about a month prior. I baked them, ate them and lived. They even tasted normal. No beaks, feathers, or anything.

EDIT: The point of that ramble being, go for it. You sound like a tough chic.

You're freaking out about open bacon that's August 2011? You are not as much of a BAMF as I thought.

Have you tried, you know, sniffing it?

The sniff test should let you know whether the food is still good or not. Our senses are meant to protect us from rancid food.

But I wouldn't mess around with opened packages of bacon, regardless of the sell by date. If it smells ok, it should be fine once you fry it up.

Risky things make life fun. I like my life fun! I'd love to do a skydive, though the closest I've come so far are 2 bungee jumps. I also used to play under 14s ice hockey. It might have been under 14s but that still didn't stop me getting my nose broken. Though I did sustain more painful and more frequent injuries learning to figure skate including a broken nose, 3 broken fingers and countless scrapes and bruises.

As far as food goes, I try to remember how long I've had food open but to be generally honest with you if a pack of meat such as bacon or sausages has gone one or two days out of it's best before date it's still fine. Best before doesn't mean it will spoil on that day, it means that the food might still be ok but it'll taste at it's best before that day. Things you learn when you work in a supermarket and deal with the fresh food section. An expiration or "consume before" date should be given more attention. Though with raw meats so long as you intend to well cook them and not consume them raw or medium rare you'll be fine.

Cook the bacon, eat the bacon. If you don't survive haunt me. However I guarantee you'll live.

Smell it. If it smells ok, just eat it.

That's what I do anyway. Just make sure to cook/fry/whatever it a bit more than you usually do.

Bacon and all of her lovely friends are full of preservatives, but if it's been in there, open for more than two weeks, you're pushing it.

As a side note, is bacon male or female?
