so ive fiddled with the coliseum a bit like ive said before. with a simple potion just to see what i could possibly win. first time i got a few hits on chupon, but got sneezed lol. so i was thinking since its kinda random, but seems to rely on stats.

should i wait till i get sabin for example to level 99? or does level and stats matter in winning a fight in the coliseum? should i wait or try it mid 30's or maybe at a different level range?

Offering is what matters when it comes to winning.

And are you seriously wondering if levels matter? How would they not matter?

Well actually, I'd say gear matters more but levels/stat upgrades certainly make it easier. For the most part ignore any matchup with Chupon, you're really not meant to win those, his battle script has him using Sneeze about 75% of the time so unless you can kill in one round and get initiative on his high speed, you're most likely going to lose the item you bet. The Coliseum is mostly for betting armor and weapons for better gear. Items like the Cat-ear-Hood and Illumnia are only obtainable from here, so its basically a place to gather some rare gear or obtain items that you either missed or don't want to use the Ragnarok summon to obtain.

Mr. Chupon and Siegfried are considered by most fans as really tough optional challenges, especially since the nature of the Colosseum makes luck a big factor.

going to fight chadernook till i win, i saved at the save point.
funny thing is on my first fight with chadarnook, he charmed cyan and cyan pulled off his cleave and killed the entire party in one hit. i just had to laugh, totaly did not see that coming lol.

ive also read about other treasures in owzers mansion, some that were neglected on my part. so i ask this, if i beat chadarnook, do i lose the option to get every single treasure in the house? or should i go back and check the ghestal painting twice for what ever that opens and fight all the other paintings in the main room of paintings.

also from what i understand relm has the possibility of being the strongest spell caster for damage spells and highest healing for heal spells cause of her magic stats.

is the above what i think about relm true? and also what armors and relics etc should i try and get for her so she does not get creamed even in teh back row, cause i know she has lower hp and weak defence and evade. (i could be wrong :O)

got everything i saw on an item list for the owzers mansion except maybe for the relic ring? i know i got the moogle suit.

should i try and get the relic ring? or is it not that important?

    \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
is there a way to protect agianst chadanooks charm type spell that makes party members kill each other? or is it a special attack with no relic to stop it?

i should be fine as long as i could keep cyan from getting charmed, atleast then i don't have to worry about him one hit KO my entire party with cleave under this charm or muddle attack
    chadanook does.

been fighting in the dinosaur forest, trying to get the econimiser relic from the brachiosaur.
will the vanish doom trick still give it a chance to drop the relic?

Relm's setup is pretty simple actually cause most of her equipment is mage oriented to begin with. She does have some exclusive gear but mostly just pay attention to her MAG stat and if you are worried about her being K.O. then just keep someone with the Cover relic in your party.

For the most part, just keeping her in the back row should work out. She does have one special relic to look out for called the Fake Mustache which changes her Sketch skill into Control, which works like the Tamer class in FFV. Its great for teaching Strago Lores.

There is no protection from Charm I'm afraid, its a special status affliction so it can't be protected against, even by a ribbon. If you have Life 3, you should cast it on whoever is afflicted and then just kill them. For the most part, don't fight the Woman part of Chadernook, just defend or buff your party. You can only win by killing the Demon form.

It shouldn't affect it unless you use X-Zone or Break instead of Doom to kill them. A better strategy is to use Relm with the Fake Mustache Relic to Control the Brachiosaur and just use magic on it so it stays in Control status.

The Celestriad/Economizer is a rare drop but you can steal Ribbons from it. Also, the Aquila enemy in the Phoenix Cave has the Economizer as a rare steal item, if you want to go that route.

going to do narsh after some more leveling. going to get mog and umaru. after that i might end up doing the pheonix caves.

my new question is, how tough are the aquilla monsters you can rarely steal the econmizers from? also, if i end up clearing out pheonix cave and beat all bosses. could i come back to pheonix cave later on and try to steal the economizer from the aqquillas again? or would clearing it out with all the bosses make it where i can't explore it again and fight more monsters after the fact?

Outside of the collapsing house, and maybe Daryl's Grave I don't believe there are any one shot dungeons in the WoR.

The Aquila's are not terribly tough, at least compared to the Brachiosaur. If you can handle the Tyrannosaurs or Hoovers, then the Aquila shouldn't pose much of an issue.

Don't try to steal Economizers from Aquila in the Phoenix Cave. The enemy is a rare encounter, and the steal is a rare streal, and it will take far longer than it's worth. If you want an Economizer from Aquila, get it from the Coliseum. You can cycle back and forth between betting the Pearl Lance and the Strato to get guaranteed battles against Aquila without losing any items. Use Gogo with nothing but Capture, and he'll keep trying to steal every turn until he kills the enemy. Keep trying the battle until Gogo steals the Economizer.

I still recommend Brachiosaurs, though. Much easier, much quicker, and much more rewarding in other ways.

As far as Relm goes, she's as good as anyone else, HP/Defense wise. Defense is entirely dependent on equipment, and her equipment is actually really good(Behemoth Suit and Cat Hood make her a beast, and the Behemoth Suit is easy to get), and HP is pretty much the same for all characters. The only thing that sucks about Relm is that she has a crappy special ability, and thus is really only good for magic. But you can boost anyone's magic with Espers, and you don't need to boost stats at all to beat the game easily, so there's no point in using Relm(or any character) if you don't want to.

If the player's only goal is beating the game, grinding at all is unnecessary. Level 40 is more than enough to finish the game without too much difficulty, and as long as you do all the sidequests, you should be there already by the time you tackle Kefka's Tower.

And you shouldn't be going anywhere near the Dragon Forest if you're under 50. Your first grinding spot should be the desert south of Miranda, where you fight Hoovers and Cactrots. These are easily killed enemies at any level, give you 10,000 gil per fight, and either 5 or 10 magic points, and the Hoovers give you a nice chunk of exp that will level you up sufficiently while you grind for magic.

Once you've gotten your magic learned and enough cash to buy whatever you need and some decent levels under your belt, only then should you try going into the Dragon Forest. And despite being easier, the Tumbleweeds just don't have the exp to be worth killing in the long run. And that one battle against 4 Tumbleweeds is the only battle in that area that is really exp. intensive. All the other encounters there are pointless. In the Dragon Forest, every battle is an exp. cow, and like I said, with the proper set-up and good levels, you can kill anything in there with only a tiny bit more effort than the Tumbleweeds, but with a massive increase in exp. You can doublecast Ultima to wipe out the T-rex's before the really do any damage, and Genji Glove+Offering is even more lethal. Really, the Dragon Forest is pretty much the go-to place for end-game experience in FFVI. It's what it's known for, and is where practically everyone ends up going sooner or later, if they intend on getting to level 99.

However, f you're only goal is somewhere in the 50's, the Tumbleweeds will work, but so will just about anywhere else, doing just about anything else. If you're a concientious battler and never run from fights, and try to get everything from every enemy and dungeon, you will be at level 50 by the end of the game without any end-game grinding.

i looked at a coliseum guide and found the line for exp egg. one of the lines starts with betting imp armour, well i have 5 of those . so i beat the first fight betting the imp armour after a few resets. now i got the turtle shield.

so betting tortiouse shield puts you against stereodite, a beefed up looking version of phunbaba. now my character levels are around 40 now. i got red cap and red jacket, tiger claws and two earrings on sabin. failed many times after many resets to win the fight betting the tortiouse shield. he keeps using blaster on the first move and insta killing everyone i put against him. barring that sabin blocked it a few times and had a good run, but eventualy lost by casting the spell warp LOL.

so i might try the coliseum later with higher levels. i just hate that blaster allways reduces hp to 0 when it hits.

You forget the Tumbleweed strategy is a solo strategy, so even those non-Tumbleweed encounters are netting 7600+ XP which is only a little less than what a T-Rex drops normally. Also, the Tumbleweeds are not uncommon encounters, usually only taking four to five encounters before running into a set, and with the proper set-up in place, you're solo character is netting 7,600 to 10,000 XP at all times, as opposed to a group of four fighting T-rexs with the Exp.Egg only getting them 4400 XP per fight. Mathematically you're getting roughly twice the XP per fight ofr one character aloowing them to level incredibly fast. While their are certainly set-ups to kill the T-Rexs quickly, they also mean you can't use the Exp. Egg to maximize this, and frankly it takes awhile until you're strong enough to solo the forest. You have to use a team and its frankly faster to level up with solo strategies.

As for the Hoovers, they are not exactly pushovers themselves. While the Vanish/Doom trick certainly works, you're still getting pelted with his strong Sandstorm attacks and nasty Crush attack, he's not exactly slow either. Not to mention Cactuars are only good for AP and money. The problem is that if your starting on lower levels, these battles all require a team, whereas the T-Strategy can technically be done as soon as the Airship is obtained, since only Vanish and level 2 magic is more than enough to tackle the encounters. You can easily get half the cast from lv.30 to lv. 50 in the time it would take to get a team of four to those level just fighting Hoovers and T-Rexs. It makes even getting to LV. 99 take a sleepy afternoon for most of the cast.

mindfray: You will probably need the Paladin Shield in order to make the Coliseum less of a chore. I also prefer using Edgar with a Dragoon set-up with the Dragoonboots/Dragon Horn Relics to maximize the damage output of normal attacks. It will rquire luck, but if you have obtained the Pearly Lance from the Pearl Dragon in the Fanatic's Tower then you will have an edge cause Sterodite is weak to Holy damage.

paladin shield is gotten by uncursing the cursed shield by winning 255 battles without dieing? well if thats the issue , ive also read that the cursed shield/paladin sheild is not in the SNES version. and I'm playing on the SNES version.

i have a few concerns with setzer and strago. right now with the relics and equips i have. setzer for the most part and strago seem pretty weak compared to most of the other characters. sans umaro, i don't think he would every be useful.

ive read of a setup for setzer that could make him a beast, but it says you need genji glove and two (WTF?) fixed dice? i know you get fixed dice in kefkas tower.

besides the dual fixed dice setup, what could i do or equip on setzer and strago to make them less useless?

i don't plan on getting stragos lore from doomgaze cause you need a level 5 monster for the lore to do its work.

thank you. and straight flush only does 500-700 damage now?

    \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

also for some reason i never see shadows dog do anything in WoR? how often is he supposed to defend or counter attack? in fact i don't think ive seen him since WoB.

ive also read this when looking up a lore guide for strago

    +++++++++++++
    + Rippler +
    +++++++++++++

WARNING: DON'T HAVE SHADOW IN YOUR PARTY WHEN LEARNING THIS! Due to a bug in
the game, Rippler can steal Interceptor status. Unless the enemy is kind
enough to swap it back, or you have somebody in the party who can do so, you'll
lose him permanently when the battle ends! (Thankfully, FF3h -- available at
Lord J's web site -- makes it easy for ROM players to
restore the dog. Better yet, get Terii Senshi's patch from
RPG Legion so Rippler only swaps what it's supposed to.)
