I think you have to be in touch with reality in the first place in order to be able to give reality checks.
Today I was given a reality check. I have a strong chance at a paid internship within the field of copy writing/PR. I've been given the chance to do sample work on some press releases, and given I impress my interviewer with them, I have the job. I was feeling so high off of the thrill of some kind of accomplishment finally coming my way after hard work. I felt so, so good.
Then my boss called me in today and took a giant steaming dump on my ego by bragging about her successful daughter, who by the fruits of her mother's bank account, is able to go to an expensive college and go onto grad school and law school and have a billion other opportunities that are endowed upon one who has rich successful parents.
You can give me a reality check justy but only because I feel sorry for you.
