Last Thursday the demo for the PSP title was released on the Japanese PSN (anyone can get it). I've done 2 playthroughs and I've got to say, that this is probably the best PSP title they've ever done!! KH:BBS (as much as people liked it) was pretty bland and (graphics wise) wasn't the best looking game on the system. But type-0 looks better than GOW: Ghost of Sparta (what I thought was the best looking PSP title). Obviously I cant really comment on the story (not being able to understand it and whatnot), but the premise looks pretty interesting. It opens with someone (who appears to be Ace's brother) dying next to a chocobo mount and the scene was pretty spectacular. There's tons of blood and violence and I'm pretty sure the series trademark "T" rating is out the window with this entry. They still have some of the corny Japanese moaning/ girlish squeals/ femine boys pulling their vowels. One can only hope the English localization will have Bioware-esque voice acting (probably not). Looks like they haven't abandoned the FNC thing either as the Fabula Nova Crystalis logo is on the opening screen along with Square Enix.
The demo was limited to 2 summons, which were the ice skating Shiva and the Golem. The Golem is absolutely brutal and I used it to take out the last boss on the demo. The combat is fluid and I didn't encounter any slowdown/framedrops. They're using "the claw" for the camera system (any MH fans will understand). Tap the Right shoulder button to bring the camera behind the character. The characters are likable, if not a bit too Japanese, but that's to be expected. You always seem to roll out in three's it seems. There's no instant game over when you lead dies, instead you hold down the left shoulder button and up on the d-pad to choose another character. The aforementioned action with the right d-pad will let you switch between your 3 battle party members. Triangle is for melee and O and Square are spells/actions. X is to dodge.
All in all it's a great demo and everyone sould try it out, just open a Japanese PSN account on your PS3, download it and transfer it over to your PSP. REMINDER: In Japan, O is the "accept" button. X is the "cancel" button.
