Thread: VII HD remake won't happen until 2017 (theory)

Default VII HD remake won't happen until 2017 (theory)

With the recent announcement of X being remade for PS3 and Vita to celebrate its 10th anniversary, I would have to think that a remake of VII won't happen until 2017, the 20th anniversary of the original release on the first PlayStation in 1997. By then, it most likely won't be on a PS3, but rather on a "PS4."
    Is that your final answer?

Nah, note the significance of 'ten'. 10 years since Final Fantasy 10.

They already missed 7 years since FFVII. So the next logical thing would be to go to...77 years.

Look forward to Final Fantasy VII HD: Coming Fall 2074.

Well they aren't really remaking FFX, just HD-ifying it. It's not going to take so much effort. The FFVII remake everybody wants would be a huge project. I don't know about 2017, but I don't think it's all that unlikely that we'll be waiting until the next batch of consoles to see one.

Actually, it's called remastering. When you take a movie or music album released several years ago and increase the audio and video quality, you are remastering it.

And, come to think of it, you're right; a remake of VII would be a much bigger project, because it would have to be done from the ground up; they would have to add voice acting and entirely new character models. On the other hand, the only thing needed to re-release X is to remaster it in HD.

It's called increasing the graphical resolution in games. That's a big and clunky phrase for it, so I call it "HD-bump" or "HD-port". "Mastering" a game doesn't make much sense to me, and therefore re-mastering (mastering it once again!) doesn't either. If they had "re-mastered" the audio tracks in the game, then maybe, but I doubt they're doing that.

Maybe I'm too much of a math nerd, but after they missed the first 7 year anniversary the next number that popped into my head was 49. 2046 is almost right around the corner.

There is no such word, but if you want to call it "HD-bumping" or "HD-porting" like Mirage does, then go on ahead and call it that.

And the 20th anniversary of the original release of VII would indeed be in 2017.
    Is that your final answer?

A remake of FFVII won't happen, period.
Square-Enix is too smurfing incompetent today to create a game on the scale of a FFVII remake(without screwing-up). They already said if they do it, the game would have to be in current/good graphics, but that would take too much time and resources anyway. I mean, just look at how long it took them to release FFXIII, and how long is taking them to release FFvsXIII, two games that don't come even close to FFVII's complexity(the entire world-map, tons of NPCs, tons of cutscenes, etc).
Square-Enix don't have the capacity to make grand-scale games, and they know it. That's why most of their games lately are for hand-helds.

And from what I heard, this is not an actual remake of FFX.

I think a remake and especially the sequel after Dirge of Cerberus will be announced for the next years. One of my thoughts was always that Square already works on the remake, they just don't say it.

I've filed a Final Fantasy VII remake in If It Was Going To Happen, It Would Have Happened By Now, specifically around the time of Advent Children. It does make me feel old as dirt that the game is going to 20 years old in a bit, though .
