Default XIII-2 is One Disc on Xbox 360

Famitsu shares some new information regarding FINAL FANTASY XIII-2′s disc count.

The PlayStation 3 version will of course be on one Blu-ray disc. The Xbox 360 version, however, will ship on one DVD. Quite the difference from FINAL FANTASY XIII, which required three discs on Microsoft’s system.

Director cites increased use of real time event scenes, which has lead to a decrease in the game’s data volume.

Also, You can change costumes in this game like DDFF.

I initially thought that XIII was the smallest FF in history, but then I realised that shortest and smallest aren't the same thing. And XIII didn't really ever reuse any locations and each location is very different, so they must have tons of stuff taken oodles of space (and possibly why they couldn't develop something that was less linear than a tunnel).

Bear in mind that the whole backend of the game, as well as graphics and common textures etc have to be included on every disc in order for it to work. If that takes up, say, 70% of the space available on the storage media, it only leaves 30% space for content unique to that disc, so shortening the game or whatever they're doing could cut down on the amount of discs needed substantially.

Keep in mind that FMV was probably 50% of the games data volume. And cutting out FMV and replacing it with in game graphics isn't exactly difficult in this day and age.
