The only guide I ever had was the official guide to 'Secret of Mana' which I quite liked as it was written like an actual story. Although it did spoil a lot of that game for me and I vowed never to use one again.

Granted, that means I die quite a lot when attempting these games but the challenge is what makes it fun... That's why I make sure no-one's watching me when I play them...

I used to use walkthroughs all the time for everything on every playthrough, but now I'm too lazy, so I don't typically use them that often. Only if I get stuck and don't know what to do. Or there's some boss I can't beat. And if I feel like completing extra sidequesty stuff.

Although I will always use one for FFX-2, because getting 100% requires an insane amount of attention to detail.

As for official guides, I only have the one for FFIX which kind of sucks due to that defunct online thingy majigger being referenced on every page.

I'm sure we can all agree that thing was a stupid idea. Why the hell would I want to go online to look up something when you can just tell me in the book itself? Isn't that the point of the book - list information in a handy reference that can be used by my side when I play the game?

The flags were the worst thing ever and I can't believe anyone actually did them. The feathers I finished 'cause it gave me that badass cape.

And you have to use multiple guides because every one of them out there leave out at least one important detail

When it's the only thing standing between you and your first 100% game, you just gotta roll with it

AC2 also showed you what areas the missing items were in, so you didn't have to comb the whole of smurfing everywhere.

I officially hate you guys, to this moment I did not realise this was the case... on my first playthrough I decided to get all achievements for this game... the flags... I missed one and had to go through the entire game till I found it (it was in Venice).

I didn't realise til I had found I was missing one flag. Luckily it was in the city I was in

Very rarely if ever. Considering leadership requires a plethora of common sense. This is the case where making a game too hard to navigate would be bad for sales.

I'd use an FAQ if I got bored of the game and never played it again. Yet I've beaten most of the popular games without any aid.
