What tha? is my game broken? ring of fates

well i have got to the end of the ???? area and at the part where you have to light the 3 candles in a row and after much annoyance i got them all lit
the problem is only half of the bridge that appears is, well, appearing

i have read a few walkthroughs and even played along whilst watching an LP (in german no less!) and can't see where i could be going wrong


anyone else experienced this?
