Thread: Grand Theft Auto V Announced

I agree, Bully is probably my favourite Rockstar game - the atmosphere, music and storyline/characters were spot on. I enjoyed Red Dead Redemption and the ending was excellent, but I would buy a Bully 2 over another Red Dead any day. As for the GTA series, I enjoy it but not to the extent of those two games.

San Andreas was the last one I played. I didn't like the look of GTA IV. I've always been a fan of Rockstar though. I played the crap out of Red Dead Redemption, and LA Noire had it's moments as well (even though I think Team Bondi did a majority of the work).

I'm looking forward to the trailer for this.

Rockstar are in a league of their own when it comes to story and characters and I expect GTAV to live up to that. Having said that, I think its about time Rockstar had the balls to set a GTA in a location that is outside the USA. They have squeezed every bit of humour they can out of satirizing American culture. Imagine the oppotunities they would have if they set the next game in the UK. Or Australia. Heck, even Jamaica would be great. Unfortunately Rockstar won't do that in case it jeopardizes sales in America. Shame.

Oh, and what about Agent? Come on!

^ The rumor is that when Rockstar decided not to make GTA IV a timed PS3 release, there was something in a contract somewhere that they had to do it with another title for Sony. They were going to do that with L.A. Noire once they bought the rights from Sony, but that didn't happen either. So they decided to make their own. It might just be vapourware, so they could say "we're fulfilling our contractual obligations."

I'd really like for another one outside the US, too. I mean the reason they keep satirizing America is because there's already so much source material to borrow from, with Goodfellas, Scarface, Boyz 'n the Hood, etc.

I remember when this generation was young and the rumors were floating around about the next Grand Theft Auto, it was thought because these consoles were so powerful, the next GTA would take place on the ENTIRE CONTINENT OF EUROPE!!! Not with every town and city done out, of course, but all kinds of crazy stuff like driving on the autobahn, or making deals at parisian restaurants at night, or starting world wars which cost millions of lives.

But somebody found if you turn the V upside down in the logo, it looks like an "Ace of Spades" type symbol, so with that and the money the new favored guess is Las Venturas.

I think any GTA that covers more than a few cities (a la San Andreas) would not really be GTA anymore. It'd be something else. And would probably not have nearly as much immersion involved - ie, more driving to get to places where you can do things. Either that or, if they increased content proportionally, the development cycle would be massively long.

GTA stopped being GTA a long time ago. Then it stopped being what it became a long time ago too. I don't know what it is now.

Incidentally, "driving to where you get to do things"? Were you really that unimaginative that you didn't have a smurfing blast with the countryside and ignored it completely? For shame. It wouldn't surprise me to learn I spent more time out of cities than in them on SA. It was a nice change of pace but still smurfing awesome.

    That's true.

I spent the majority of my time in SA either doing gang wars (I was the Fat Chocobos, of course) and playing around on a dirt bike at the mines/mountain/whatever it was at the south-west portion of the map. I barely got into the northern cities, really.

    But SA was special.

The first GTA was in the three big cities that became the trilogy during the PS2. So If GTA I wasn't GTA then I'm confused.

GTA IV I actually played through the plot. GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, I just dicked around with the cheats and tried to find more and more interesting ways to blow the smurf out of everything. I miss parachutes. Those were fun to play with. So for GTA V, I just want a better plot, not just one that's merely interesting enough for me to play, and no smurfing escort missions, or missions of any kind that require me to not crash into things when I am driving. Really that last point is all I want out of GTA.

I loved piling as many of my homies as I could into a bus and taking them on field trips. Then blowing up said bus with all my homies inside at the end.

Why would they make a trilogy when they already gave us The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony? Rockstar have figured out how to get more money from us for a single game without complaints. I think a completely new instalment gives them way more opportunities to do more DLC and make more monies.

So the trailer was uninspiring. So it's back in San Andreas anyway..
I made one myself for a change! Although you can probably tell that..

I really didn't like IV at all.

It didn't feel like the previous games at all, it was too movie-like. Some people like their games like that, I don't though. I want my game to be game-like if that makes sense.

I think the golden age for me was Vice City and III. I could spend forever playing those.

    Word.

Saw the new trailer. Thirst thoughts: back to San Andreas where the series lost it's vibe. As I've said before, as long as they don't go back to the mob vibe of the earlier games and drop the whole one-man-army stuff I'm not interested.

Edit: also quite disappointed in Rockstar for not trying anywhere new. They play it safe, hoping to cling on to a certain target group by itching a nostalgia nerve. Why not Tokyo? Beijing? Hong Kong? Dubai? The more I think about what they're trying to pull off here, the lower my hopes get.
