Final Fantasy Series Live Action Cast

This is a "complete" list for a live action cast of the Final Fantasy series that various GameFAQs users and I came up with. Thought I'd share it considering the work we've put into it.

And before you say it, yes, I realize that there's absolutely no chance of an adaptation being made. This list is just for fun.

I consider this "complete" since all the main characters for each game (minus FFXI and FFXIV since I never played those) are here already. (Needless to say, characters that would be CGI or have unexposed faces didn't have to be cast.)

Only FFVI and FFVIII have what I consider to be an actual completed cast though, but I decided to stop here anyway, because I have to stop updating at some point or else the younger cast members will get too old and make this outdated, which would result in an endless amount of revisions. I'm satisfied with stopping here. This is my Final Fantasy live action cast list for 2009-2011.

That said, any feedback, and new or better suggestions would still be appreciated.

Just try to be realistic with your suggestions. Don't suggest too much high-ranking A-listers, especially for minor roles, and don't cast younger/older versions of an actor/actress.

Keep in mind that some characters have to be aged to make it look plausible in live action. Anime and JRPGs intentionally make characters younger for their target audiences. Preteens are fledgling warriors, late teens are already expert fighters, and 30s are wrinkled vets. But in live action, this doesn’t translate well and 18-year-olds don’t appear as convincing capable warriors. So in live action adaptations, characters have to be aged slightly, which is okay if the age is not all that relevant to the storyline anyway. Add to that the fact that the actors/actresses typically play characters younger or older than their actual age, then there is some room to play around with the characters and the actor’s/actress’ ages. That said, stay close enough to their age range.

Well, for the record, Jared Padalecki as Squall wasn't my idea, although I do think it was a good suggestion (and it was the one that started this whole list). Shame you disagree, but I appreciate the feedback.

And yeah, it seems a lot of people agree that Camilla Belle is perfect as Rinoa. (But is it wrong that your choice of words makes me think of something else entirely? )

I'm perfectly aware of that. But a lot of people on this list are capable actors/actresses so I'm not quite sure why you'd say that.

For instance, you got typecasted people like Jack Black, Tilda Swinton, Chris Evans, etc. who have proven that they can pull off their characters. You got people like Adrien Brody, Keira Knightley, Zoe Saldana, etc. who aren't exactly being typecasted, but have played roles that help prove they'd be capable of the parts they have. Not to mention, a lot of these individuals like Donald Sutherland, Tim Curry, James Franco, etc. are extremely talented and it isn't exactly a stretch to imagine them pulling off the roles they're given.

Sure, you need more than a face, but I think a large portion of these choices have more than that and would be capable of doing their characters justice given the right direction.

The FFIX cast is probably the hardest to cast considering the unconventional character designs. I expected that to catch the most disapproval. Although I wish you'd be more constructive in your criticism rather than being so insulting about it. (Like, who would you have picked?)

But wait--you think that Jack Black is a random choice for Gilgamesh? There's a first. I mean, I can understand why you don't see Mads for Sephiroth. (Mads is not the bishie type after all.) With Gilgamesh though, most people I've asked think that Jack Black is the best possible choice. Who would you have picked?

Some of them are spot on. I especially love Leelee Sobieski as Quistis, Mike Epps as Sazhe, and nailed FFVI other than Kefka. I don't yet know who I would suggest, but I'll think about it.

Thanks. I'm glad to finally get positive responses. I'd like to hear your alternate suggestions for the characters you didn't like. Someone on another board suggested another character for Kuja and I liked it so much that I changed it. So I'm still open to suggestions.

(Also, I do have Robin Williams for Cid Kramer.)

Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) should be Tifa in a live-action adaptation. She has roughly the same height and physique, and an equally high-pitched voice, which is a natural in her case, as I've seen and heard interviews of her, and when she speaks, her normal tone of speaking is quite high-pitched. Tifa also has a fairly high-pitched voice herself.

Conversely enough, I read somewhere that for the Twilight Saga films, Stephenie Meyer's closest physical match for the character of Alice (before Greene was casted) was none other than Rachael Leigh Cook, who is Tifa's English voice actress, because she is roughly the same height as the character (about 5'2'', compared to the actual character's 4'10'' or so and Greene's 5'5''), but she was rather old; the character's physical age is about 19, compared with Cook's 29 (circa 2008) and Greene's 21 (also circa 2008).
