Before I even opened the thread I was also thinking Bastion.
It is indeed an excellent soundtrack.
EDIT: Either that or Portal 2, now that I think about it.
i liked the portal 2 soundtrack, but there was nothing really memorable that came out of it. like it was well made and stuff, but i can't remember any of it now. but i randomly start humming 'build that wall' whenever i'm just walking around town.
i think in terms of dialogue and voice work, portal 2 was amazing as well, but because of the innovation that bastion produced in voice work, i can't help but give it the heads up too.
i still need to play through the co op on portal though, good reminder.
Final Fantasy XIII-2, and I am 100% serious. It is fantastic.

mirage that post might be the thing that sways me for buying the game earlier than two years from now THANKS A LOT
It is also very different. It's got a modern sound, with lots of electronic influences, and several tracks have lyrics. It still has some more typical dramatic orchestra type tracks, though. The music is very fitting to the environments, and it is probably one of the more progressive (no, not as in prog rock/metal) soundtracks I have heard in a Japanese game in years.

I agree that XIII-2 has a lot of good music, but seeing as it was released in 2012, it'll be going up against Mass Effect 3 in my books. It'll be a FANTASTIC showdown!
Now, uh, what the devil happened in 2011, again? Hm... Not knowing many current games, I'll say Witcher 2. XIII-2 isn't half bad, but W2's music is about as good as Mass Effect 2! (... Hope ME2 is from 2010.)
(Though DCS A-10 has to have some recognition for the novelty of a flight sim with nice music... right?)

i'm not sure where to place 13-2 because it got released in 2011 in japan but 2012 everywhere else... maybe it should be in the running for both
I vote Frozen Synapse.
I totally listened to the FF13-2 OST in 2011.

For me, I easily memorized the music, but I like more ambient stuff at times. However, I felt the music in Portal 2 was more structured than the first game. It's still ambient, but I get tracks from that game stuck in my head constantly.
Again, Bastion is hard to argue with though.

Or does Xenoblade count? It was released in Australia in 2011 >_>
Definitelly Xenoblade Chronicles. It counts. I got it on September 2011, so yeah, I was there.
