Airship / chocobo glitch?

I was curious if anyone here has heard of or attempted the glitch to get the Hilde Garde sooner than intended by means of the Chocobo mini-game. I've never attempted it myself so I wanted to know if it was true or not.

I know you can get the flying chocobo before the hilda garde but as far as I know that messes up you progression. I dunno about the other way around though.
