I'm currently attempting to get a platinum too, actually. Although, I am not doing it in a very orderly fashion yet, but I will do it more systematically soon.
I just want to see how much I can get without following a guide like a slave first.

I've got platinum! The only platinum trophy I have actually.
And there's my platinum.
And the slot machines were a retarded idea for getting the serendipious trophy. I spent forever on that, then just switched to chocobo racing and did it in two hours, including the time needed to earn money to level up and infuse my chocobo.

Blatantly went with the "tape down the button" strategy for the slots. Stupid thing for a trophy, I agree.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
I taped it down too. It didn't get me anything. Well, except the fragment.

Oh, yeah, I mean that it's stupid that you have to tape it down to get the fragment to get the trophy.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Well the fragment isn't as bad as the trophy. The fragment is just winning stuff regardless of how much you spend, so you can just throw money at the problem and it'll go away. The trophy actually requires you to profit from it, and it needs to be done in one single serendipidy visit.
In either case, I don't think I'll touch the game again now. Not in a very long time, if ever. Maybe I should platinum FF13 too.

I found FFXIII worse than FFXIII-2 when it comes to hitting Platinum, if only because of the number of fights you need to have vs. the Adamantoise to get enough gil for all the upgrades.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Just got 100% last night. Secret ending was basically garbage like the normal one. Decided to buy the DLC episodes. Finished Snow's and Sazh's. I'll be doing Lightning's tonight, probably beef those three characters up and take a shot at the Coliseum DLC. Then I'm done I think.

I'm not going to give SE any more money for playing this game, but maybe that's just me. The DLC is short and the stories in them are apparently just as terrible as the rest of the game.

And yes, I agree. I actually had a good time getting the platinum trophy in this one. Save for Serendipitous and the chocobo steps one. But I did find that your characters needed to be much more advanced to finish the platinum in XIII than in XIII-2. I had all Lvl. 99s by the final chapter.

Well, the only actually hard enemies for trophies in FF13-2 were the solo-Caius fights, but it wasn't too bad after i remembered that there was an easy mode in this game that would still grant you the fragments.
Oh yeah, I guess that undying cieth in oerba was pretty hard too, but that was about it. I spent forever on that fight, but thankfully I didn't need a good score at all to get the trophy.
I kinda wish the game had some more bosses that required really stong characters (or strategies). I feel like the bosses offered in the game were all pretty... well they weren't weak, but they weren't hard to win consistently against. All my monsters were pretty much a hodgepodge of skills that i thought sounded cool, without a lot of thought put into them. I kinda wish there was an enemy where i would actually need to put +36str on my monsters, boost their hp to 18k, have specific defensive skills or get completely destroyed etc.

I got the platinum about a month or 2 after it came out
There didn't need to be any harder bosses. The one in Oerba drove me crazy! Instead of making interesting enemies, they made ALL of them constantly heal so the fights took ages but if it was too long then they'd cast death on you. So glad I don't need to try and get platinum more than once >.<
Only the one in oerba took a long time. I don't think i spent more than 5 minutes on any other enemy. The oerba one is a lot faster if you can deal with the adds fast, cause surviving adds is how he regenerates.
