So I'm currently on my first playthrough of this game on my iPhone...
Is it me or are all the dwarves in dwarf cave all talking in a Scottish accent? Is this on purpose? Did they have Scottish accents in the original NES version of the game?

I don't know if it's the same in the original game, but I can say that it's quite common for Dwarves to be given Scottish (or a gravelly English voice) accents in all kinds of media, so it didn't surprise me that they did this back in the early days of Final Fantasy. It's a Celtic thing. Oh, and they can be Irish, sometimes, too! But yeah, Scottish is the 'majority accent' for Dwarves in fantasy realms.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
They were just as impossible to understand in the NES version, don't you worry.
The dwarves at Conde Petie in Final Fantasy IX speak with a Scottish accent and dialect, too.
He's by way of NZ so he's actually a pygmy
I couldn't help but imagine Shrek's voice when I saw the accents in the updated versions of the game. I don't even like Shrek all that much. Well, this post was fun. I want to leave this off on a better note.
Oh man I love the dorf accents in this game, they crack me up so much.
Dorfs are clearly master race!
