As someone commented during the match, if the Irish players had the intensity and pride that their fans did, they'd be much further along.
Spain are rounding in to form which is very scary. If Torres can actually start firing again, watch out. It frankly is hypnotic watching them play as they just pass-pass-pass-pass-pass and bang, a shot on goal. It looks so simple but you need players willing to look up when they get the ball to do it.
Case in point, contrast what someone like Iniesta does when he gets the ball versus someone like Robben of the Netherlands. One gets the ball, looks up, passes and moves to receive, then looks to pass on again. The other, gets the ball, puts his head down, cuts to get the ball on his left foot and shoots, lately well off target. Never bothers to see if he can play someone else in. Reminds me of how the New York Knicks play basketball, one-on-one, isolation, give the ball to one player and everyone else watch. Not the way to win.
As for tomorrow, I have a sneaky feeling about the Ukraine. I feel like we may see a 2-2 draw against France. As for England, I think they see out a 1-0 win on a goal from, what else, a set piece. Gerrard crossing to Welbeck or maybe Ashley Young or even Terry.
Through two rounds, Spain and Germany appear headed for a rematch.
Take care all.
