When Ash when in his prime, you might have noticed that in the movies whenever Ash lost his hat by accident, some serious stuff went down and he faced his darkest hours. Obviously, he prevailed. As time has gone by, Ash has been used to adventuring and he can't live his days like old times anymore. Therefore, he has removed his hat in hopes of reliving the glory days of his grandest adventures.
