Best Square Villain

So we've had all sorts of talks about best FF villain but Square made other games too.

So who's the best?


(SPOILER)I have a preference for the "fallen hero" type of villain but I think it was very well done with him. Lacan was just a dope in love who also happened to be around during a war for the freedom of most of the planet. Just after he finally confessed his feelings she goes and kills herself for him. A devastated and vulnerable Lacan then stumbles upon what is essentially his dead love's evil counterpart. Playing on his self-loathing, Miang mindsmurfs him into seeking Zohar. Unlike Fei, Lacan didn't have a chance to get his head on straight before talking to God.

Imagine your girlfriend died right in front of you. Then, while you're still trying to cope with that, you learn this has happened at least twice before. By all appearances, your destiny is to find the woman of your dreams but only so she can be brutally murdered while you watch.

Lacan's chat with God pushes his unstable mind over the edge. His newfound powr and insanity nearly brings about the extinction of all life on the planet. Only he's able to regain his sanity long enough to see his best friends put him to death.

Only he doesn't die. The woman he loved with all his being asked him for only one thing. And so, even if it meant living as a parasitic spirit driven only by hatred, he lived on. He resolved that, if destiny entailed nothing but perpetual loss and suffering, the only way to make it all stop was to completely destroy the human race. After all, if every last human was dead, he and Elly could no longer be reincarnated.

For non-FF games I'm partial to Magus even though he joins you later.

Baby Panay, what other boss controls a whole country, and fights you while you both ride nuclear missiles?

His minions include ninjas, infinite cops, heavy artillery, suicide bombers, pilots, and he has the potential to make billions upon billions of dollars if you lose the fight. Also America will be blown up.

Oooh, this is a tough one for sure. I would definetly second Grahf though I feel id, Miang and Krelian should have honorable mentions. Xenogears just has so many good villains.

Though I will always have a soft spot for Lavos, I just like Eldritch Abominations because I feel it's scary when you are facing something so alien you can't even hope to reason with it.

I also want to say Sydney from Vagrant Story, but he's more of an antagonist than a real villain.

Thanatos in Secret of Mana was also a serious asshole as well.

I would say that Xenogears had some fairly interesting villains. Its story is pretty long, so there are many more villains and antagonists to choose from rather than a Final Fantasy game which usually doesn't focus on the antagonists too much.

I would have to say ghaleon is one of my favorite villain. He kidnaps your girlfriend kills just about all of the dragons and just about turns the world into a desolate waste. Not bad for one bad guy. I thought professor hojo was kind of a different villain and he kind of scared me. I am going to also throw in golbez and kuja where great villain.

I agree with you about Ghaleon, but the LUNAR series was made by GameArts and Studio Alex, not Square Enix.

Ghaleon is a wonderful character and I wish more games could give gamers the same type of experience that Ghaleon gives the player who plays LUNAR The Silver Star and LUNAR Eternal Blue.

I know ghaleon is not a square enix character I just thought he was a great villain. Since we are talking about villains I will have to throw in golbez. He is that one bad guy that is a thorn in your side until almost the end. I thought he was really scary when I was a kid and he has one of the best song entrance ever lol. You know stuff is going down when he comes in.

Yeah, I like Golbez. I liked the way he delivered his lines in the Nintendo DS remake.
