I'll throw in my vote for Endless Space. That game is great. Alpha Centauri is pretty fun too, albeit the game is more Civilization in space that flying around in spaceships colonizing planets like Endless Space, MoO, etc.

Get your ps2 fired up or run a PSX emulator and get some Colony Wars going, those games were awesome!
On that note also Freelancer on PC pretty old but epicly good.
Sins of a Solar Empire is also apparently amazing but looks amazing too so might run like troute if at all on your machine.

also i dunno if you like mecha but if you're doing ps1 stuff anyway, omega boost was fun. and of course the zone of the enders games.

they're re-releasing the zoe games in HD i think for ps3 for sure, not sure about xbox...but zoe2 was amazing

I remember buying ZoE just for the playable Demo of Metal Gear Solid 2. I had no idea what the game was about and didn't care.
I ended up spending twice as much time on ZoE than I did on the full game of MGS2. It was awesome.

Freya, I am absolutely serious when I say this. Play freelancer. It is the best space sim that has ever been created
