That's the irony of it. People in Japan are statistically living longer than most of the world. They also show their age far less.
Hmm, they must have a lot more of an old fashioned society than America does then. In America the 30's is often considered to be an even more attractive phase of life than the 20's are. And most people would consider a 30 year old to be far more attractive than a 20 year old.
"Old" isn't really an insult in Japan.
It isn't meant to be an insult. From what I understand, the culture considers middle age and up to be "old." Simple as that. In most anime or video games I have played that was created in Japan, while the also call the elderly old, they say the same for anybody in their 30s or above.

Example: In Tales of Vespira, Raven is consider the "old man" of the party and he is 35.
