    Default Jon Lord (1941-2012)

Lord's organ was at least as essential to Deep Purple's sound as Richie Blackmore's guitar was. Lord co-composed several of the band's greatest songs, including "Child in Time", "Space Truckin'", "Black Night", "Strange Kind of Woman", and "Smoke on the Water", and it's difficult to imagine the band sounding anything like it did without his contributions. It would be fair to say that the entire genre of hard rock (and, by extension, heavy metal) would not exist in the same form if Jon Lord had never lived.

    A massive talent. R.I.P. :sadpanda:

I'm not hip enough to know of this guy though I have heard of the band. Smoke on the Water is a great song. RIP dude.

No. No no no. This did not happen. No. Ultra sadface.

Overhearing the keyboard solo from Highway Star is what introduced to me to me to the glory that is music when I was a kid. I spent over a month learning it by ear on guitar when I bought my first one. This is horrible news.

Big fan of Deep Purple. Lord rocked the organ in 'Hush', one of my favorite songs of all time. May he Rest in Peace.

You gotta go sometime. Hope you're just as rock'n'roll in your afterlife.
