    Default 5 Favorite FF Tracks

5 favorite themes from any FF OST. Explain. (But if you want, I guess you can post just your one and only favorite theme if you don't like ranking.)

(SPOILER)I love FF7 and will always side with it no matter what, but seriously, the soundtrack was truly the best. So my favorite 5 tracks are going to be from FF7. Don't get angry at my opinion.

EDIT: There are so many other tracks from FF7 that are just so great, if I did a top 15, there still might be only FF7 music.

    5. [FF7] Sandy Badlands (Corel Prison Theme): It gave you an isolated feeling, like you were actually imprisoned and had no where to look ahead to. Alongside a great story of Barret's background, this theme was the filling and icing to the cake.

    4. [FF7] Those Chosen by the Planet: This track captured fear, shock, anxiety, and suspense all in one piece. You can feel the fires of Nibelheim burning and Sephiroth's blade shimmering through the vicious flames.

    3. [FF7] Anxious Heart: The name of this track is perfect. It makes you anxious inside, but really wants to search all around and find a way to move on. This track gives me nostalgia and makes me yearn for more of the game's story.

    2. [FF7] Main Theme/World Map (and all variations): One of, if not THE, biggest "stoked" feeling I have ever felt in gaming. Going through this big journey inside of Midgar, a large city basically in power, but corrupt in so many ways. We step out of the city, which feels like a world in itself, but then the jaws dropped. We step out and see this huge new perspective of the game. The theme itself is also powerful, peaceful, and gets your spirits up that there is something good ahead in your path.

    1. [FF7] Tifa's Theme: The innocence of this track proves what a masterpiece it is. It accompanies Tifa's character so well and amplifies her personality. This piece really soothes me down and is beautiful in so many ways. I don't care if it feels too repetitive. There is nothing wrong with repeating something great.

No time for "Dilly-Dallying" or "Shilly-Shallying."

    5. The Place I'll Return To Someday (FF9)

You boot up FF IX and what do you hear? This track which doesn't only sell you on playing through the whole game, but also sticks with you while you do it. Almost, just almost the best prelude track in FF.

    4. The Stage Is Set (FF8)

Great track to get motivated to do something and also potentially the best military song ever. 'Twas for a while my second favorite FF track, I just listened to it all the time and never got bored of it which not many tracks/songs manage.

    3. The Castle (FF8)

Hands down best organ track in FF. It has so much variety and calls forth so many different feelings, making Ultimecia's Castle really stand out above all the other areas in this game.

    2. Someday the Dream will end (FF10)

Beautiful track and I really love that this track plays nonstop in the Ruins of Zanarkand up to the Dome. It captures the emotions of walking through a destroyed version of your own home nicely but it doesn't go overboard in doing so.

    1. Ending Theme / To Zanarkand (FF10)

To clarify, I think the Ending Theme is better, but only because it includes beautiful rearrangements of To Zanarkand, which would've otherwise taken the Nr. 1 spot. I didn't want to have the Top 2 Songs just be variations of each other so I gave them the top spot together.
These tracks are just outright amazing, wonderful to listen to and I find myself whistling the melody more than anything else. Ending Theme is probably one of the main reasons why I love FF X's ending so much. And To Zanarkand plays prior to starting the game. Now THAT is how you start and end a game right there!

FF7 only made it in the 7+ spots (how ironic) so no place on this list. They're not bad, they just can't keep up with the other awesome musical pieces in this amazing series.

    In no particular order:

    1. Invisible Invaders (FFXIII-2)

    2. New Bodhum (FFXIII-2)
I live on the coast, so this one reminds me of home. And Origa is just great :3

    3. Summoned Monster Battle (FFX)

    4. The Final Battle (FFX)

    5. Test of the l'Cie (FFXIII)

You'll notice I didn't put an explanation for most of these. I don't have one! They are pretty cool and just strike a chord with me y'know?

But you have to admit, the overall soundtrack is up there in your top, right?

Well, thinking about it, I'd promptly put it in the Nr. 3 spot of best soundtrack, after VIII and X.

I like X's OST, but not so much VIII.

I'm not sure if I could really do this... There are just too many good tracks. It would have been easier to list my top 5 FF OST than just the tracks. For those wondering:

    1. FFVI
    2 - FFVII
    3 - FFIX
    4 - FFV
    5 - FFIV

Only Jessweeee would pick two themes from X-2, two from X, and one from XIII.

    5. Battle on the Big Bridge (FFV) - Wolf mentioned elswhere that in the older games, the music really helped tell the story. This is very true with this track. It clearly enhances the sense of urgency and excitement during this battle and the subsequent fights with Gilgamesh.

    4. Cid Highwind's Theme (FFVII) - VII had some great tracks but this is my favorite. It's just so epic. Cid is one of the last characters you get so by this point you think you've heard all the good music but then BAM they lay this track on you.

    3. Terra's Theme (World of Balance Theme) (FFVI) - I go back and forth over which had the better overworld theme, VI or VII. I think VII's is probably a better overworld theme but VI's is a better theme in general. As you can probably see I like grand, epic themes and Terra's theme delivers. She's also my favorite character from any FF.

    2. Those Whom I Must Protect (Beatrix's Theme) (FFIX) - This is the remix of Beatrix's theme Rose of May (great theme) but more upbeat and epic. I love it. I wish I could play the flute and Miriel could play the trumpet, and we could duet this song.

    1. Ronfaure (FFXI) - I could sit and listen to this for hours and hours. In fact, we are going to play it at our wedding as guests are finding their seats. The song is so tranquil yet epic at the same time, and it perfectly fits its setting in FFXI.This is trule Uematsu's last great work and probably his greatest ever.

That's two from FFXIII-2, though surely if there was a number six I would have put Eternity. Honestly it just depends on what kind of mood I'm in. They flipflop all the time! A track from FFV could even sneak its way up there at the right moment. If I could rank my favorite soundtracks:

    1. FFXIII
    2. FFXIII-2
    3. FFX
    4. FFVIII
    5. FFX-2
    6. FFXII
    7. FFV
    8. FFIX
    9. FFVII

The others are pleasant enough, but I never purposely listen to them.

My bad. I actually liked some of XIII-2's tracks, though the stupid vocals about time travel were annoying.

I'm just gonna pick 5 songs from 5 different categories.

    5. Final Fantasy II - Battle

Behold - the best Normal Battle theme in the series. FFII haters are just jealous that no game after had something nearly as good as this.

    4. Final Fantasy X - Seymour Battle

What can I say, I like Seymour. By this point most people are just tired of him but damn if I didn't love his Omnis form and accompanying his new look is one of the coolest SpeciaL Boss themes in the series. It's not particularly ominous or anything...it's just really energetic I guess. Listening to this song makes you pumped to take Mr. Hair Antenna down one last time.

    3. Final Fantasy VII - On the Edge of Despair

This stands as the Saddest Theme in an FF game for me. Of course it plays when you find our poor hero in a his mind-shattered state but it also plays when you revisit Rocket Town and I think Mideal. (it's been a LONG time since I played FFVII all the way through) This song really just hammers home how despondent and devoid of hope the world has become as everyone awaits Meteor.

    2. Final Fantasy IV -Within the Giant

I've said it before and I'll say it again - FFIV is the best damn soundtrack ever in the history of the series. New technology is great but Uematsu was simply hitting every track out of the park with this OST. I chose Giant of Babel because it is one of my favorite FF4 tunes and while I'm not sure if it's my absolute favorite, I wanted to throw in a great Dungeon Theme.

    1. Final Fantasy IX - You're Not Alone

This scene... This scene is perfect. I've seen the criticisms for it but I will never stop loving this segment. Zidane had every right to suddenly be a bit emotional what with his frickin' soul being torn out and the reveal of his true nature.

But before I go off ranting about why this bit was flawless, I guess I should remember teh topic at hand. This piece is simply the greatest track ever in an FF game. Best Boss Theme? This. Best Character Theme? This. Best Game Over Theme? This.

I love this magnificent song and it has an emotional power that no other FF track can ever rival.

For some, Cloud being in his phase was more sad than the death of Aeris. This was either going to be my number 2, or my number 7, and I felt like it didn't play long enough to move me as much as the others did, but it's great. I think it really captures Tifa's despair more than Cloud's sometimes.

This, except I would rank FFIX in second place and FFVII in third.

"You're Not Alone" and "Dancing Mad" would definitely have to be in my top tracks, as well as the entire opera from FFVI and Terra's theme. I might round it off with "Dark Messenger", although I'm not 100% sure about that. Too many great songs to choose from, tbh.
