Yes, I don't see anything wrong with it. It's happened on more than one occasion where they break up but i still continue to keep contact with both parties.

Chose only If I'm actually friends with them. In actuality I meant, only if I actually met them. If I met them then okay. I'd be a dick not to add them and they'd probably tell my friend that I'm being a dick and not adding them so whatevs. I will also happily defriend them if they ever break up with my friend.
Generally speaking I'll add most people. Would rather add the significant other of someone than add someone I work with to my facebook if that makes sense.
I have my drinking buddy's gf on my fb. she thinks i'm funny irl (on fb she has my status updates blocked).
If they break up I'll defriend her.
It's how it works.
There's this funny little thing called the defriend button. I use it pretty often.
