DayZ

So my buddy mentioned this to me offhand the other day and now I've just seen a news article that says DayZ, which was originally a mod for ARMA 2, is gonna be stand alone. Anybody played this before? Anybody know if it's good? Apparently has all sorts of positive reviews and whatnot hence the fact that it's going to be made into a stand alone game and not just a mod.

Yeah I watched this go from some unknown little zombie mod to exploding across /v/ and SA with astounding speed. Not played it myself because my computer couldn't handle ArmA 2 until I upgraded it a few days ago, and I've had loads of other things to try out first, but with this news I may well wait to see how the standalone works out anyway.

I have a few friends that play it who say it is filled entirely with dicks who go around shooting people for no reason other than to be dicks. It is fun though, if played in a group.

I want to play it but I didn't want to shell out cash for Arma 2.

I remember reading an article about how a guy was held hostage in the game then got a case of stockholm syndrome then was upset later when he found his "friends" dead. He tweeted the whole thing while it was happening or something.

I have been very interested in this for quite a while. Someone on Kotaku post this awesome video where 2 guys basically were going to rob this noob and kill him. At some point the noob realized it and opened fire. He was blown away but the after math shows what kind of world it is. One of the two thieves was hurt, he asked for a bit of help, the other guy saw a waste of supplies so he killed his partner and took all of the goods for himself.

I have heard nothing but good things about this game, aside from that one guy who hipster'd up saying now that it's popular it's awful. Makes me vaguely interested in playing it, but I dunno if I'm interested enough to shell out the money for it.

Seems to get pretty intense though.
