Building from my Game Over screens thread a little while ago, let's look at the opposite spectrum; the start. What is your favourite start up screen? I don't have a link this time, unfortunately, but I assume you will have played most games or at least recognise the general set up. It wasn't until X that this formula was changed, I believe. And I smurfing hate it.



I blame PlayOnline for needing to be plugged. It was useless anyway. The upbeat music is weird considering most are silent or play a prelude theme. But I will say that the FFVII one is probably the most memorable for me.



Probably just because I've seen it more than any others. So, which do you like most? Which do you hate?

The FFVII screen stands out for me, but FFXI was my favorite because it continuously scrolled through different zones in the game, giving you a sense of the great world before you.

Just looking at it I can't say that it's anything special; it's just a nostalgia thing. When I start a new game in FFVIII after not playing it for a long time I get lots of feels when I see that screen and I get to hit the "New Game" option and it makes that pretty noise

I...never noticed all of that playonline junk in FFX. Was it not in the US version? I don't know, now that I'm looking at that screen shot it looks like it was probably there all along.

I didn't like the FFX one, because I didn't like the whole "let's make it look like a website" thing.

I don't know if it counts as a startup screen since it's from the arcades (which I guess would make it an Attract Screen), but I like the opening of Aero Fighters 2. It's short, but I remember playing this as a kid and I always thought the opening was awesome.

I will be predictable and say IX is my favourite. A Place to Call Home is one of my favourite FF tracks, and like some people have said about their favourites, it just fills me up with nostalgia and good feels. VII and VIII are cool for similar reasons, though to a lesser extent for me personally.

I will agree on the dislike of the look and feel of X's menu, although I will say that as a frequent soft resetter, I appreciate the fast startup.

Yes, VII. I also like how the VI title screen loads up, it's like welcome to a story that will haunt you forever haha.

Either VIII due to Griever or XII. I offer no elaboration for the latter.
