'Hitler' clothing store stirs anger in India

The store owner claims that he was unaware of the significance of the name, and it was a reference to his beloved grandfather, but let's have a look at the storefront:

Yes, you do see what you think in the "i" on the sign.

Also, how the deuce do you achieve the age of 3 years old while living on Earth without hearing about the most hated man in the history of the universe?

Esther David, a prominent Indian writer in Ahmedabad who is Jewish, said she was "disturbed and distressed" by the shop, but added that some Indians used the word "Hitler" casually to describe autocratic people.
So basically, they're like the internet.

It must be noted that the Nazi's stole the swastika from hindu religious symbolism to begin with so seeing the swastika present could really be co-incidence however. I don't like the level of coincidence involved to get to this.

My bad, my gut sad Buddhist my brain said Hindu... Always go with your gut in future. But yeah Buddhism is a hugely popular religion in India as well as Hinduism. Therefore it's possibly coincidental but like I said. I don't like the coincidence.

Also, the Buddhist version wasn't tilted 45 degrees. The sign is clearly a reference to national socialism.

If there's any remaining doubt, the giant letters spelling out "HITLER" should dispel that.

Is he wearing a beret as well? I mean, surely if you were a soldier or had a relly that was, you'd have to have heard of the man before. It's smurfing Hitler for smurf's sake.

It's seen in Hindu culture also, as well as a handful of others, but I believe the original symbol is a reversed version of what we recognize today, so that argument for the "i" is pretty weak. His story just doesn't hold up.

Variations of the swastika have been used by several cultures throughout the millenia, usually as a symbol of peace, serenity, power, egalitarian union (specifically referring to harmony between the sexes), good luck, and/or general well-being. The word itself, from Sanskrit, literally translates to well-being. In Eastern religions it's a sacred symbol. There are old statues of Buddha with Swastikas on them. In Hinduism it represents the sun's rays, which all life depends on. There were swaistkas on certain Greek architecture ~500 BCE. So the guy was perfectly justified in his using it for his store's sign. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, unless you prefer living in the past. Sure, the sign may now be commonly thought of as being associated with a mass genocide. But just because one jackass used it doesn't change its meaning or its origin.

That being said, HOW THE HELL DO YOU GO THROUGH LIFE WITHOUT EVER ONCE HEARING OF WWII?

All of that is rendered null by putting it in the dot in the i in Hitler's name.

Think the point of the sign is to catch attention. I think it served it purpose!
